About Me

Hello! I am Alejandro, I'm from Bogotá, Colombia. I love traveling and learning from another cultures. I am a musician and ethnomusicologist, and I have been traveling on my country for many years, sharing and learning with many indigenous communities. Besides studying and learning the music of this communities, I have learned about farming, handcrafting, natural medicine and traditional amerindian spirituality, to name a few! I love the countryside and all kind of things related with nature, ecology, permaculture, etc.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

In this occasion I'm travelling to Asia and I want to know about their ancient cultures, philosophies and ways of spirituality. I'm interested in Buddhism and I hope to learn more about that. Certainly, in relation with my profession, I want to learn about the traditional musics of these lands and share some about the musics of my country.

Interests

I'm very interesting in music of any place and culture. I like to learn about cultures different from mine. I like to know different ways of approaching to the spiritual experience of life, so I always want to know about the local religions, ways of spirituality, etc.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love the music(s) of Colombia's indigenous communities and countryside regions as well as the different musics of Latin-american countries. In general, I like traditional musics from around the world (India, Mongolia, Mali, Burkina Fasso, Hungary, etc... and many more!). I also love Rock, Reggae, Salsa... especially the old classic bands, like Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Jethro Tull, Bob Marley and The Wailers, Riche Ray Y Bobby Cruz...
In the list of my favorites movies could be Herz aus Glas (Werner Herzog), Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring (Kim Ki-duk) and Resistencia en la línea negra (Amado Villafaña/Saúl Gil/ Silvestre Gil) to name a few!
In relation to books, I really loved Los Pasos Perdidos (Alejo Carpentier) and currently I frequently read books of Tibetan Buddhist authors like Chögyam Trungpa or Chögyal Namkhai Norbu.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Travelling to some indigenous communities in my country (Wayuu in La Guajira, Misak in Cauca and Kuna-Tule in Panamá) and learning to play some musical instruments (Sawawa, Massi, Lus flute, Kammu-burwi).
