About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To experience some small portion of the world that I've read about, money and time permitting.

ABOUT ME

Well, hello.
My name's Aden and I'm completely new to, and fascinated by, the Couchsurfing community.
I'm a recent university grad and now taking a break from work to fulfill my goal of visiting Georgia and the Caucasus. I'm tirelessly interested in politics, history, geography and language, and probably read more on wikipedia during my degree than I ever did from textbooks.
I'm naturally a social person, and enjoy meeting and getting to know new people.
And lastly, I hate writing biographies on myself, so now you know that.

PHILOSOPHY

Treat others as you'd like to be treated.
Try and do some good in the world.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I got into it based on the strong recommendation of a friend who travels exclusively through couchsurfin and swears by it.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music:
Music is very important to me. I listen to music all the time and enjoy discovering new bands to listen to. My tastes vary pretty widely. In no particular order, here's some bands I'm listening to:
-Arkells
-Elage Diouf
-Corb Lund
-The Black Keys
-The Tragically Hip
-Jack White/White Stripes
-Dan Mangan
-Amadou & Mariam
-Great Big Sea
-Gogol Bodello
-Whitehorse
-Junior Kimbrough
-Blue Rodeo
-John Lee Hooker
-Hey Rosetta!
-The Chieftains

I normally read embarassingly few books, but I read The Economist and Wikipedia compulsively.
Some books I'd recommend:
The Great War for Civilisation, by Robert Fisk
Guns, Germs and Steel, by Jared Diamond
Shake Hands with the Devil, by Romeo Dallaire
The Story of French, by Jean-Benoit Nadeau and Julie Barlow

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In terms of travelling, here's a couple of great moments for me:
-Visiting Maligne Canyon, near Jasper in the Canadian Rockies
-Hiking Waterton National Park and Kananaskis Provincial Park
-Visiting Istanbul

Countries I’ve Visited

France, Mexico, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States
