About Me

I'm currently teaching at an international school in Brasilia, Brazil.

ABOUT ME

I was born and raised in the bubble that is Orange County, California. The weather was too perfect and I longed for a change of scenery so I moved across the country to attend college in Maine. Having spent most of my childhood in the state of California, I was fascinated by the differences on the East Coast and the change of seasons! After graduation, I worked in Boston for a few years but started to get antsy to move somewhere new. So I joined the Peace Corps and found myself living in a rural village at 10,000 feet in the Andes of Peru. I loved it there and didn't want to leave, but life was calling. I delayed reality by traveling solo for 10 months through South and Central America all the way back to California. Instead of getting rid of the travel bug, this made me want to see even more of the world. So 2 months later I packed my bags and headed to South Korea to teach English for a year. After another year of wandering and traveling around South East Asia I landed a teaching job at an international school in Myanmar. I was there for 4 years, then moved to Côte d’Ivoire for 2 years. I’m now working and living in Brasilia, Brazil since August 2020. While this list doesn't define me, it might give you a better idea of who I am.I prefer...-climbing mountains over museums-chocolate over vanilla-cats over dogs (although dogs are cool too)-bars over clubs-small groups over large ones-swimming over running-walking slow over walking fast. I could live off of chocolate and avocados.I'm inquisitive, and some may say I ask a lot of questions. Luckily google can answer most of them.

PHILOSOPHY

Cliche as it may be, I try to live life with minimal regrets!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I haven't used it too much but so far my experiences have been great. I stayed with Sarah at her Peace Corps site in rural Honduras. Getting there was quite an adventure! Most recently I met up with Sujue for an evening in Taipei. Meeting up with someone who knew the language and city was a highlight of my trip! I've also stayed with Couchsurfers in Morocco, Philippines, and Jordan.

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy a variety of music genres. I'm not that picky and I've been known to listen to songs on repeat until I get sick of them.I'm not a huge movie buff, I prefer TV series because they require less time committment. Plus once you are hooked, they last a lot longer.I love to read. I spent half my childhood reading. Then the internet came along. So while I still read, I find that I get distracted easily. There is just so much information out there! I am a very fast reader so I am always looking for great book suggestions. When I can't find a book that interests me, there is always Harry Potter. I may have reread the Harry Potter series at least 10 times.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Just one?!I've been fortunate enough to see many things. Anything during my Peace Corps service would have to top my list. I loved it and would do it again in a heartbeat. As for adventures, there was this one time I spent 18 hours in a dugout canoe with 16 other people on our way to Iquitos. We maybe have gotten lost several times in the Amazon, and it was probably one of the more physically miserable experiences of my life. But I loved the adventure of it, and I willingly did the trip again (luckily this time without the unexpected travel delays).I've also held a baby sloth. I love sloths.Sailing from Colombia to Panama and stopping by the San Blas Islands was another unforgettable experience.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to knit. I'm also pretty good with computers and all things technological. I can also make a delicious chocolate chip oreo crust cheesecake. Unfortunately it's been awhile since I've had access to the ingredients or an oven.
