À propos de moi
CURRENT MISSION
To make the next destination completely new.
ABOUT ME
From Leicester, England; that place pretty much in the middle of the country. People either never seem to have been there, or don't know where it is...
PHILOSOPHY
Why drive when someone else will do it for you?I do actually drive, but I like public transport so much that everyone assumes I don't...Travel broadens the mind. I was in Chicago and started speaking to a couple on the subway. They took me out for lunch because I'm British. Yes. They had travelled all over the States but never been outside, not even when they were in Detroit and could see the Canadian border from their hotel. I told them that if they were in a similar situation again, they should cross over into another country, if only for an hour.
Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Haven't done much yet but I hope to surf soon and am on the lookout for potential hosts and people to impart local knowledge. Do have a look at the 'places I want to go' list.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
None yet, and that's why I'm here! I have one or two projects on the go that will involve travelling, and I always want to see new places and meet new people. I especially want to go places I haven't visited before.
Centres d'intérêt
Public transport interests me in a big way - I enjoy exploring the world with it. I recommend the Benelux Rail Pass! I have also made several attempts to break the Guinness World Record for visiting every London Underground station as quickly as possible, but no success yet. I have done the same thing in other cities and would like to continue; I'm on the lookout for opportunities to visit big cities especially. Having said that, the European countryside is endearing. Rural France and Belgium. I like and play music - have released a couple of records and played live in England, France, Italy and Canada so far. My latest project is the Métro EP (more public transport), a compilation album with songs inspired by various metro systems around the world, which will be released very soon. We have toured that to Paris so far and I'd like to take it to new places. Music is a good way to meet people, so if anyone's in need of a temporary or one-off keyboardist/bassist/vocalist to collaborate, jam or tour; have instruments, will travel.I love small countries like Luxembourg and want to visit more places like that.Other hobbies include cycling, dancing, badminton, mohicans, scarves (winter), interviewing and learning about borders and time zones. I am not bored easily and will consider doing anything at least once. There are two travel related things I'd like to do in the near future, both of which aren't likely to happen. The first is to cross the Afghanistan/China border in both directions and jump forward and backward three and a half hours in time. The second is to be in Samoa on the 29th of December 2011 and jump forward 24 hours in time when the International Date Line is realigned to the east of the island, thus rendering the 30th of December non-existent there. Well, I can't go to Samoa in time for the big day, as it's two weeks away. I don't know of the surfing possibilities in Gowritik, but Mulangi would be better because then I would be within some sort of reach of the Afghanistan/China/Pakistan tripoint. Wishful thinking, wishful thinking...

Morceaux de musique, films et livres
I will almost certainly be interested in any melodic and electronic music. I maintain that the 1980s was the best ever decade for music. I am unlikely to listen to anything that was released before 1978. Many gems I have discovered lie in unsigned music. I don't attend as many live shows as I once did, but hopefully that will change.I'm not big on movies. A good film is hard to beat, but every year, films are released that I want to see and I never go to the cinema. I always enjoy a blockbuster, but am likely to derive more from more arty, independent films. I used to be considered an expert on James Bond films, to the extent that I was recruited for a podcast reviewing each one in chronological order. Ingratiating myself into the stranger side of cinema is on the agenda, but I don't know when I'll get round to it.I am more likely to read a newspaper than a book.
Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue
I have visited every station on the Chicago L in one day and been awarded a station sign with my name on by the Chicago Transit Authority, and also been written to personally by the President of the Authority.
Enseignez, apprenez, partagez
I could tell you the best way to go around a few English cities. But I find it more fulfilling when I discover somewhere that is not in the guide book.
