About Me

Hi there!
I've been a member for a long time, but haven't had the chance to meet other CouchSurfers or host any because of my time- and attention-demanding work. Now that I am back to studying again, I would like to explore other parts of the world.

I'm Indonesian and I love meeting people because they are really intriguing. I love hearing stories from others because I think, no matter how modest it is, there is always something that I know nothing about, something to make me wonder and be appreciative about... I guess I'm a bit of wonderer and wanderlust. I do love talking and exchange ideas, some people say that I like to think out loud :P

I am a curious person and that's why I like to explore and learn new things. Traveling is what I love the most, especially to places I have never been to before. I enjoy anything local/ethnic, I think they have the 'real' meaning of the culture, people, history, etc. that it pushes my comfort zone slightly further.

So, I hope to see you soon!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

What can I say, I just like traveling and getting to know people so much. I always love the idea of having a pen-pal. So, back then when technology was still not so advanced in Indonesia, I sent postcards to my friends that I met during my exchange years. Now with CS, I can help stay in touch with them at any time of the day, any seasons, any year. I believe that I will meet many great people from CS, those whose stories matters and I know I will learn a lot from you.

Other than that, I join CS because I want to pass a long kindness to others. I am so grateful for receiving much kindness from others and I believe that it should not stop with me. As cheesy as it may sounds, I really want to pass it on to others too, in any simple way that I can; perhaps as simple as listening to your stories :)

Interests

I'm really fond of spending my time outdoors, especially anything that has greens in it. Growing up in a tropical climate, I guess the shades of greens from the plants and forests always bring some calm and peace for me. I love losing myself in culture, I always find them bewitching me! :P It always intrigues me how everything that I can't make sense from a political perspective (my work was highly political), can always be explained from cultural settings. And the more I learn about it, the more I don't know. Although I love doing many things, I also love doing nothing and just be with myself.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love reading good books, especially literature cos I found them very eloquent. My favorite authors are, among others, Leo Tolstoy, Jane Austen, Virginia Woods, Emily Bronte, Dickens, Simone de Beauvoir, Ralph Ellison, Orhan Pamuk, Paulo Coelho, ... JK Rowling (of course!!!) ... currently, Haruki Murakami is my fav. But I don't like chick lits

I can't say I'm good at cooking, but I love to learn. So please do teach me some simple dishes so that I can make it when I'm back to Indonesia.

On movies and films, I'm super grateful there's Netflix. It does revolutionize my list of movies and films, hahaha!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I taught local kids studying English and Math. I raised awareness of some friends of mine about these kids' economic conditions and managed to get them some English dictionaries so that they could use it to support their study. The dictionaries were not that expensive, but these kids' families had different daily lives priorities that were more important and urgent than to just buy a dictionary.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can share my experiences and people say I have a way of telling stories about my journeys. I can teach you to cook some Indonesian fritters and nasi goreng! :)
