About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Understanding the world as best I can

ABOUT ME

So I guess like most people on here, I LOVE travel! I've tried to visit as many places and immerse myself in as many cultures in the world as I can and so have spent quite a bit of time living, working and studying around the world. Now I'm looking to finally get to know my own country a bit more, and I'm hoping couch surfing will help!
As for how I spend my time when I'm not traveling, I worked for a long time as an Earth Science Teacher (hence all the time off to travel) and I recently went back to school to study environmental issues in the context of developing countries.

PHILOSOPHY

OK maybe this is cliched, but be open minded and just always be willing to give things a try. I find that I'm usually very pleasantly surprised!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

So I'm completely new to couch surfing! But it sounds like an amazing way to connect with people and get to know where they are from so I'm excited to give it a try!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

OK so I have never hosted or been hosted by anyone... yet! But I have often stayed with people or hosted people I have met on my travels and have always had wonderful experiences. Right now I can't host, which is really a shame, but I am hoping to to use CS as a way to connect with new people coming from different places and perspectives.

Interests

Well, obviously I like traveling and meeting people! I also am really interested in education, languages (even though I'm not very good at them!), politics, the environment, and a variety of international issues. I also just started reading a lot more non fiction books lately, which, along with just talking to people, has now become my new favorite way of learning.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Most recently I got to stay in Botswana for three months and went to some of the wildlife parks there. You can't believe how many animals there are there!! Got to see about 50 elephants right in front of me in a river at sunset. Beautiful!
