Overview
About Me
Romanian-born anthropologist getting my PhD from University of Michigan in the U.S. . Student of culture and political economy, I write about the state, time, and technology. This basically means I'm a huge train nerd, and that I work in a rail yard to do research. That's why in August I'll be touring the Balkans by rail with a good friend. So if you're living in Bulgaria, Greece, Macedonia, Albania, Kosovo, Bosnia, Montenegro, or Serbia, expect a request.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
First time I surfed, it was in Sankt Petersburg, Russia. My host, a worker in a sock factory shared with me her room in a communal apartment, and took me away from the glamour of the downtown and to the docks in the Bay of Finland, where I got to hang with drunks, tramps, fishermen and dockworkers. I learned more about Russian society by checking out communal living and drinking on the docks than from the Hermitage and the Ethnography Museum. And that's why I'm on couchsurfing: to learn and share with others. And drink with tramps.
