I went to the FIFA World Cup in Russia last summer with no tickets for any match or booked accommodation, it was one of those moments when you make a decision to travel without planning. Everything went amazingly great, I ended up making great friendships from all over the world, I traveled around Russia, I discovered their culture and I was able to purchase 2 tickets at literally face value, one for Mexico vs Brasil and another for the great final match Croatia vs France.
