About Me

CURRENT MISSION

ABOUT ME

I like to tell stories, can't gurantee they're always good, but I've got a lot of them. I'm an overeducated handyman, and a basically friendly guy. Truth is something I pursue, but deploy in moderation.

PHILOSOPHY

I use to have something rather expansive in this section but now that I've been around the block (or maybe half way around) I just want to see a bit of this lovely world, and get by as best I can.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

So far I've only surfed, but I'm hoping to have people over, as soon as I get a sofa, and an apartment.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Last summer I walked from my childhood home in Los Angeles County all the way up to San Francisco, about 500 miles/800km. Couch surfing saved my butt a few times along the way, so basically it's been great.

Interests

Journalism, anthropology, semiotics, laundromats, books, bicycles, jiujitsu, walking, beer, sailing, media, good sitcoms.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: Kapuscinski, Borges, Hemingway, Moby Dick, Italo Calvino, East of Eden, Herodotus.
Music: Anything I can sing along with, or dance to.
Movies: Ghostbusters, Cohen Brothers.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I walked from Los Angeles to San Francisco--finally got to explore my home state as it should be seen, on foot.

I worked as a plumber in post-Katrina New Orleans, worked as a commercial fisherman in Alaska, as a substitute teacher in Oakland, and in factories in Los Angeles.

Went to graduate school at and Ivy League and flunked out.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know a good bit about construction especially plumbing, history, anthropology and evolution. Some have called me a "Walking Wikipedia."
