About Me

I take people as they are and sex, orientation, age, preference, skin colour, nudists, satanists, satirists , whatever. It all just gives us something to talk about. Or not. Just please don't judge me for what I am or am not.

I have hosted in my AirBnB, and my hotel room. I have no need for personal space and love meeting people so if there is a few square inches in my place and I can help someone out and meet new amazing people I will put those few square inches up as available.

These days I only take people that might enrich my life in some way rather than people that are only looking to save money.

I am a Canadian with Dutch roots from Vancouver, BC, travelling and working all over the world. Just did a year in Melbourne where I hosted 56 people. Then I spent some time living in Berlin. My Spanish is getting better. I can understand more than I can speak. I can speak too, but nobody knows what the hell I am saying so I don't. I know a lot of Dutch. I can count to 1000 in German, and say Nein but I rarely do!

I am an environmentalist, and I try to practice zero waste, but it is really hard, so I practice net zero waste by recycling stuff other people throw in the trash. I am vegetarian and eat vegan when possible. I biked as much as 43km to work.

I have been Vegan when I was in Australia. And vegetarian most of my life. That was impossible when I lived in Cuba because it was hard enuf to find food. Now, I just try to eat responsibly. Avoid beef for sure and limit the meat I eat whenever possible to try to help the planet little bit.

I have a strong sense of irony and my sarcasm is too often taken wrong so I am learning.

I refuse to grow up and act my age until I figure out where people my age go to have fun.

In your request I ask that you site one reason you would prefer to stay with me so I know you are not spamming for a place to crash. 🙈

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

They say the best way to learn something is to teach it. A corollary should be that the best way to discover a city is to show it to others! I have made some wonderful friends by hosting in Melbourne and had some great outings. Now I am back in my home town. I prefer guests that are interested in more than just a cheap alternative to the hostel.

I am curious to meet nudists. And more vegans.

Looking for adventure. Preference is always giving to interesting people that will push my boundaries.

I have no problem inviting people new to Couchsurfing, but if you don't even take the time to put a few pictures on your profile or say something about yourself, I will politely reply to your request to say that you should do that first.

Music, Movies, and Books

I can't see this matters... but off the top of my head: Meet Joe Black, About Time, Star Wars, Blade Runner... older movies but also Perks of Being a Wallflower and Definitely Maybe.
I like the Marvel movies and TV shows but now they are getting tiring.
In the last few years I have not found time to read but I carry a book around with me all over the world just in case

My favourite things are cycling and making cookies but not at the same time.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I wrote a lot of software for the original iPad.

I have not watched any Netflix since moving to Australia for 6mo in September 2018.

And I stopped reading the daily news in May 2023

Teach, Learn, Share

I actually spent 11 years writing software at Apple so I can tell you what that was like if you are interested.

Now I am a freelance iOS gun for hire.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share my recipes for cookies and El Paso Pilaf

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, France, Iceland, Netherlands, Panama, Qatar, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand

Countries I’ve Lived In
