About Me

CURRENT MISSION

just tryin to maintain the right balance of confusion and understanding

ABOUT ME

Hi! I'm a currently stateside-bound travel junkie but I just moved to New Orleans from my home in DC after I left my fancy 9-5 job in search of something better suited to me. Right now I'm looking for a service industry job In NO, getting re-connected with the real world while I think about what's next for me.

I write a lot, but not enough. I like to perform, too. And discuss issues of import. I also have a thing for learning new languages-- a guy on plane once called it 'cultural greed' and said it shows an excessive need for attention. I think he was joking?

Anyway back to me. I'm a deeply curious person, and I don't think I've ever been bored. Love meeting people and hearing their stories and ideas (& recycling mine for a fresh audience). Lots of life experience, [almost] always game for a little more. Very friendly and open, as a general rule, if a little ridiculous.

PHILOSOPHY

I think most people, myself included, are terribly prejudiced in conscious and subconscious ways, but I also believe most people are teachable and redeemable. I don´t think there´s anything that shouldn´t be said (though a sensitivity to phrasing and context are key). While not being particularly relativistic, I think that moral pluralism is a global reality, and one that must be addressed for peace to be possible. I think travelers, writers, artists, are instrumental in helping people understand other ethical systems and the contingency of their own personal narratives. So travel, talk, learn. I salute you. We are so lucky to be able to do this.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

For all kinds of dumb reasons, it's been a hot minute since I was last involved with CS, but I used to host and surf all over the world, and I think I am ready to be born again.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I stayed on couches all over Europe, and hosted/surfed around China and in Ithaca. Marvelous people all over.

Interests

people and how they tick, populations and how they move, philosophy, politics, pluralism. development, sustainability, sharing. horizontal connections.

talking, writing, singing. dancing more than i've had time for lately. being a good friend. being outside. drinking outside. learning to grow roots. learning how to stay.

I love all music, particularly kinds that compel me to dance or mope. I'd rather be blind than deaf.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Where to begin...?

Teach, Learn, Share

I should do this bit by region when I have time! But ask me about anywhere I've been, particularly China, France and Central America, and DC of course. I can give you advice about what's awesome and what not to do. And ways to get by.

Countries I’ve Visited

China, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Ireland, Spain, United Kingdom, Viet Nam

Countries I’ve Lived In

Nicaragua, United States
