About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To step out into the world and find our calling in life.

ABOUT ME

We are in our early thirties and nearing the end of chapter 1 of our adult life. Chapter 1 can be summed up as boy meets girl in college, boy falls in love with girl and proposes, girl says yes, boy marries girl, girl goes to medical school and pediatric residency while boy works in software development. Interpersed through chapter 1 have been some pretty sweet short-term travel experiences (see locations traveled).

Chapter 2 began this summer when Tracy completed her year as Chief Resident of Pediatrics and Adam quit his job. We spent most of the summer driving around the midwest (of the US) for about six weeks (with a family trip to Banff thrown in!) visiting family and friends. In late August, we left the USA on a journey that will take us around the world. We will be overseas almost the entire time from now until May of 2012.

Adam was born and raised in Minnesota (Minneapolis area). Tracy was born in Milwaukee and raised in the Kansas City area. We have lived in the Kansas City area since 2003. We both like the northern climate and envision ourselves moving back North later in life.

We also envision living abroad and doing mission work at some point for some length of time.

PHILOSOPHY

We are evangelical Christians. This label may evoke certain assumptions. The typical assumptions may be accurate for many evangelicals, but not for most. We try to live according to what Jesus said in Mark 10:43-45: "Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

Also, the golden rule is a good guideline for life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We are new to CS as of March 2011. We sold our house and recently left the country for a round-the-world tour. Unfortunately, this means we cannot offer a couch to fellow CSers at the present time. But we do want to meet people in our community and hope to meet some wonderful CS brothers and sisters while on the road later this year and into 2012.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

So far, attended one CS meetup in KC and sat down for drinks with another widely travelled CSer from the KC area. Will hopefully have more to update in the near future!

Interests

Travel, obviously. Sports (hockey, football, baseball, tennis, and more), reading, movies, hiking, canoeing, cooking, photography, board games, meeting people, and following the Lord Jesus

Music, Movies, and Books

Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Napoleon Dynamite, Pride and Prejudice, Adam Sandler movies, books by Paul Theroux, The Chronicles of Narnia (and anything by C.S. Lewis), .... much more, but can't think of everything right now.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

We went on a Safari in South Luangwa National Park in Zambia that was pretty awesome. Also, we went to the Great Wall of China in January of 2007. A bit cold, but the snow made it rather picturesque and part of it was rather steep and slick which made for some awesome sliding!

Teach, Learn, Share

We have found Eagle Creek packing cubes to be helpful for when we are stuffing all kinds of junk into our backpacks.

In Venice, we really enjoyed Le Cafe: http://www.lecafevenezia.com/ That was back in 2004, of course...

Will try to think of more stuff to add...

Countries I’ve Visited
