About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To share a smile with everyone I meet. :)

ABOUT ME

My name is Alexandra (Alex for short). Friends have often said that I'm very peaceful, relaxed and a good listener. I enjoy stories, learning and sharing. I have always had very diverse friendships with people of all different walks and ages. My interests are broad and I always have an open ear for a traveler's stories.

PHILOSOPHY

I appreciate the idea of letting each person be, as John Cage (composer/philosopher) once said, "their own centre of creation."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Met Juliane from Berlin for pizza
Hosted 2 couch surfers (2011)
Climbed a mountain in Curacao with Kenly (2011)

Interests

I love creative expression of all forms - music, poetry, theatre, movies, books, colours. I love to play my guitar and sketch.

I've fostered an interest in organic farming, permaculture and foraging in recent years. Sustainability, anthropology, philosophy - every way has something to say of the world.

Music, Movies, and Books

Tastes are always changing and expanding. ;-)

Music: all genres! Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Rush, Bob Marley, Stevie Wonder, The Police, Instrumental piano music, The Beatles, The Kinks, Wilco, Weakerthans, Danny Michel, Sarah Harmer...the list continues...

Books: anything by Hermann Hesse, Jack Kerouac...I enjoy biographies and read from the Fantasy/Sci Fi/Mystery genres from time to time.

Movies: Seem to be drawn to dark comedies - funny movies that have a philosophical undertone of sorts. I've also enjoyed foreign films. Some titles: L.A. Story, Heaven Can Wait, Harold and Maude, Snowcake, Tim Burton's work, What's Eating Gilbert Grape?, Rushmore, Educating Rita, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Climbing Mount Royal in the dead of night.

Standing over a passing freight train in Vancouver.

Chasing fire flies and scattering the midnight dew on a mountain in Appalachia.

Teach, Learn, Share

My greatest passion is for the visual arts (particularly drawing and painting). I have had my work exhibited in different galleries over the years and enjoy creating paintings of portraits, landscapes and in the fantasy genre. My friends tell me that I'm a great listener and I guess you could say I'm a sort of "curbside counselor" or mentor. I like helping people find solutions or simply holding the space for anyone going through a dark night of the soul.
I can play basic guitar and love good conversation - these are some things I'd be happy to share. ;-)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am a spiritual person who offers oracle card readings, which are a tool that helps people access Divine guidance from their spiritual team of angels and guides. I am happy to provide readings to hosts upon request.

I also love to draw and have been known to share drawings as gifts of gratitude to hosts. : )
