About Me

Hi, nice to meet you :)

I come from Kraków, southern Poland, but moved to Gdańsk in 2018 to study oceanography. Since I've just finished master studies in the field of marine biology, I'm eager to use my freedom and time flexibility to travel as much as possible. Currently I work as a bike mechanic and trying to figure out my further plans for living (considering the PhD, but not sure yet) , which makes visiting new places, meeting people and listening to their stories even more exciting. My main goal for now is to experience as much as possible and push myself out of the comfort zone a bit.
I perceive myself as quite outdoorsy and active type of person. Among sports I'm into now you may find swimming, diving, sailing, climbing and biking. As my biological background suggests, I like being surrounded by nature (so far, I especially prefer northern landscaped, but not only for sure), but I really enjoy city breaks as well. I'm a former violinist, with special sentiment for the music, but interested in other branches of art too.
I'd call myself rather an ambivert than an extrovert. I like people, especially talking about wide range of topics and hearing about the ones I don't know much about, I need time to recharge my "social
batteries". I'm have AuDHD, so any neurodivergent friends are warmly welcome.

Bunch of hosting info:

I HAVE A SHORT BREAK FROM HOSTING NOW (PROBABLY UNTIL OCTOBER), SORRY

I live in a single room apartament with separated kitchen and bathroom (3rd floor without an elevator). Unfortunately, my apartament is waiting for a renovation, so it's quite minimalistic and low key. I don't have any couch. I may offer just a matress on the floor and provide a duvet and pillow or a sleeping bag.
I definitely don't like kids under 12-13 yo neither smokers. I have a weakness for animals and would love to host someone with one.
If you were my guest, I will be happy to show you around, tell about local specificity, give recommendations of places worth visiting and hang out with you, but at the same time you are definitely expected to give me space - taking care of yourself, exploring on your own too and not wanting me to spend the whole time with you.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Primarly, for developing myself through meeting as many people from outside of my "bubble" as possible (in both my home city and places I'm traveling to) and for deeper and more realistic experience of the visited location. Second reason is the opportunity to travel on a lower budget, which is important for me as a young person with restricted income, and thus being able to visit more new locations.

Music, Movies, and Books

I listen to the wide range of music genres - from classical, through indie rock and alternative, up to minimalistic. Among my favourite composers/bands there are for instance Of Monsters and Men, Michelle Gurevich, Antonio Vivaldi, Max Richter, The Lumineers, Kortez, Asaf Avidan, Olafur Arnalds

When it comes to books, I often read non-fiction like biogaphies, reportages, popular science, but not only. I like authors Olga Tokarczuk, Jakub Żulczyk, Andrzej Stasiuk, Hanna Krall (polish ones), Mikhail Bulhakov, Svetlana Alexievich, George Orwell and Jose Saramago

I prefer drama movies, psychological and documentary ones, but I like magical realism in both books and films as well. My favourrite ones might be Guillermo del Toro, Greta Gerwig, Tim Burton.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm lucky enough it's hard to choose just one, but probably taking part in a 2-months long scientific cruise in Svalbard or night diving in Croatia surrounded by bioluminescent plankton

Teach, Learn, Share

I may share my knowledge in marine biology and related topics. I would enjoy to explain my culture and basics of polish language to anyone interested as well. As a host, I probably (depends on time and my current responsibilities) may show you around, point places worth visiting the most and help with everyday struggles (public transport, admission fees etc.).

What I Can Share with Hosts

As written above, I'm open to share my biological and ecological knowledge or basics of polish culture and language.
