Overview
About Me
I've lived in Sydney, Australia most of my life (except a small stint in San Francisco, CA) to an English mother and Sri Lankan father, and now reside in London where I work as a consultant for a non-profit that helps low/middle income countries with their tech infrastructure. So I get to travel a lot - the dream!!
I am incredibly passionate about languages, politics, LGBT rights and writing. I have written for the Guardian and consider myself an activist of sorts (although I always think that sounds really wanky!)
My passions aside, I would say I am a fairly fun, open and talkative. I speak my mind a lot because I love hearing other people's opinions...so I tend to think people want to hear mine (which is not always the case!). I just think talking is the best thing - it's how people connect and get to know each other.
I am privileged enough to be able to travel with work, but even before moving to the UK I travelled almost incessantly throughout my early 20s. I've been stuck in between landslides in Guatemala, lived and worked in Tanzania and North Carolina, lived in a castle in Switzerland and about a billion other great experiences. However much of the world I see, there is always more, and I find that to be SO exciting.
Overall, usually I am on couchsurfing just because I want to meet cool new people in a country I am going to. It's so nice to be able to not only see and experience a new city, but to make new local friends there too - and that's ultimately my aim!
Happy surfing :)
Interests
Language in all its forms. And linguistics, etymology, semantics, grammar etc. I'm currently reading an encyclopaedia on world languages - yep, that nerdy.
Animals. I absolutely love animals.
I also enjoy going to the gym and keeping fit - I play rugby here in London.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Probably travelling in Guatemala on a 'chicken bus' (local bus) and getting stuck between two landslides at midnight in the pouring rain, and being really scared we were going to get pushed off the cliff from the landslides joining together, and therefore die. It was the most terrifying and amazing couple of hours of my life. And that's the shortened version of the story! I also met some awesome people and long-term friends during that trip.
What I Can Share with Hosts
A laugh, a beer & an English lesson (judgement free - I used to do this for a living!).
