About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Travel, learn.
ABOUT ME
Grew up in Atlanta and headed west as soon as I could. I've been bouncing around the Rockies and the west coast for a number of years. Experiencing everything I can while I can, notably the natural beauty of the West. I still have no clue what I want to do with my life but have accepted it and am trying to enjoy things along the way. I guess it all comes down to living and learning. And now after a year teaching in Japan and roaming around parts of Asia, I'm looking to reconnect with my home in the American West.
PHILOSOPHY
I believe its important to live life now, as much as you can for the present, and one should do so with the utmost awareness to that moment. We are here firstly for ourselves, and if we gain an understanding of ourselves, we can cooperate with people all the better.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
All around the US, both hosting and surfing. Japan, Taiwan, Korea, England.
In more than a decade of being on CS, I've never had an experience I could call "bad" either. It's a beautiful thing, bringing people together like this...
A NOTE ON CS REQUESTS
Due to the recent overabundance of CS requests that I've received that have been, let us say, lacking in any personality, I've put a few very basic tips for those of you who may be new to the CS community and looking to surf...
-Actually tell me a little about yourself/your trip
-Tell me why you want to surf with me and not someone else (maybe mention something from my profile/something we have in common)
-Do your best to give at least a few days notice when requesting to surf
-And lastly, please tell me the name of your favorite book somewhere in your request. This is merely so I know you've actually read my profile (and because I like books).
Interests
Traveling (obviously), reading, hiking, backpacking, meditating, mtn. biking, wandering aimlessly around beautiful cities, learning, living, walking barefoot on nice soft grass, high mountain views, the ocean, brewing beer, cooking, bread baking, skiing (alpine and x-country), watching things grow...

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: classic rock, jazz, jambands, blues, bluegrass, folk and i love anything in the spirit of improvisation.
Books: the classics, pretty much anything that's passed the test of time--Kerouac, Hemingway, Camus, Hesse, Murakami, Rand, McCarthy, Steinbeck, Franzen on and on... Love poetry: Whitman!,Rilke, Neruda, Szymborska, Mary Oliver, Li Po, Tu Fu, Basho, Ryokan, Ikkyu etc. and philosophy as well, especially the existentialists and Asian philosophy, particularly Buddhism.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Too many to count really. Sunrises, sunsets over canyons and mountain ranges. Wandering the ancient cobblestone streets of Europe. Soaking in the quiet of Japanese temples. And the daily wonders that unfold...
Teach, Learn, Share
Traveling is about renewing one's spirit. Seeing new things should only help remind us that "we have always been where we ought to be."
What I Can Share with Hosts
Thoughts on travel, food, beer-brewing, books, hiking, nature, wandering, and probably some other things too. In general, a good time!
