ABOUT ME

I am a conservative. I live my life and have my beliefs and I believe in the motto, "I may not agree with your beliefs, but I will defend to the death your right to believe it."

PHILOSOPHY

The Bible. I also believe that the early bird may get the worm but it is the second mouse that gets the cheese. It is also said that you should conserve water, so we should shower with a friend. I know that old age and treachery will overcome youth and skill. And the most important thing... always bring your own toilet paper with you when traveling outside the USA.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have a house that is not the best place in the world but it does the job, its comfortable and its a home. I also tell anyone who will listen about the project and I have been known to be a "go to guy" for people who are stranded in strange places... to either get them home or to go find them. LOL

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have always couchsurfed at peoples houses that I knew but the concept of making it a global experience is just the coolest thing.

Interests

Movies, urban exploration, meeting new people, adventures, making lasting friendships and memories. Really I guess. so long as I don't catch an incurable desease or have to purposfully kill and innocent person then I'd be willing to give it a go.

I listen to alot of adult alternative, Tom Waits, Sophie Zelmani. I read horror and suspense. Also I read alot of religious books.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have gone on day trips to Europe (takes three days total to be in a country for about 25-30 hours). Eaten seafood bought out of a bucket from a total stranger on a Thai beach and LIVED! I have seen the sunset from the Sears Tower in Chicago. Travled 250,000 miles in 4 years in my spare time.

Teach, Learn, Share

DENTON'S RULES OF INDIVIDUAL CIVILIZED BEHAVIOUR WHILE ABROAD:
1) Be nice.
2) Learn about another persons culture with an unbiased eye.
3) Always look for the common ground. Start there.
4) Find the differences as a chance to learn and grow.
5) Always teach your beliefs and culture with in an educated manner, know your own culture and belief system first and try not to be judgmental.
6) Give to others freely and they will generally return the favor, if not to you then to the next visitor or guest.
7) Nobody starts out as your enemy, poor actions and decisions make them so. Avoid making those.
8) Observe local laws and customs to the best of your abilities.
9) Be humble, you are the alien. You are a guest in their world.
10) Not everyone is the same nor should you take it upon yourself to "bring them around" to your way of life or try to make everyone the same. Sometimes its best to agree to disagee and move on.

11) Don't try to change anything in the country you're visiting. If you perceive the existing government/cultural beliefs/common practices as backward or unjust, leave them as you see them. You're not going to be able to change what exists in one trip.
12) If you're visiting a country as more than a tourist, get to know the people impacted by existing systems, and get their take on it. You might realize that there's nothing wrong with their country and that it "works" for them.
13) Never question who's driving, you are along for the ride and should be grateful for the transportation.
