Über mich

We make part of Couch Surfing because we still believing in a human feeling: Hospitality! In some of my trips, due to a bad planning or life circumstances, I had to sleep in the streets, that showed me the importance of waking up under a roof and being thankful for things that sometimes we consider as "granted". So first CSurfers, please send a good request and just be honest of what are you expecting.
We love people who left honest references.

I lived in so many cities of Mexico, from the north to the south. And now my decisions took me to France where I met Barbara. She comes from an Argentinian family but was born in France. Both of us incarnate the modern society, we mean, new world citizens. We could say that even before being born, we were already crossing borders ( poetic figure to explain how many times my mother crossed the mexican-american border and ended up by choosing Tijuana as my birth place, and how Barbara was conceived in Argentina but born in France).

CSurfing showed me the hospitality from the people, in my first year in France, I had an incredible experience in Montpellier, where my host family ended up by asking me to stay with them. What it was supposed to be a three nights stay, ended up by being a stay of 10 months!! That is hospitality dear friends!!!! This year is Nice, which is my second city in almost two years of studying a master degree in French literature and now a PHD in Philosophy.

We like travel to small or medieval villages, they are quiet and inspiring for us. We do not like crowd places or if We go is just to see how people get stressed while We are walking with out any pressure. We consider traveling as the opportunity to meet a different face of yourself when you are out of your confort zone, when you are a stranger to yourself (Julia Kristeva). Because meeting new people shows you a different side of your own personality.

We considered ourselves a respectful couple to all the ideologies, and if We have some judgments, at least We face then, the best way to change them. We ask the same from the Csurfers we host. We are not agree with the label “a tolerant person”. From our point of view (and our life experience ) this word expresses a limit, it is like putting a bound to the other. In contrast being respectful means do not have limits to encounter the others, something nowadays everybody should have, more important those whom make part of this social network. But PLEASE, do not confuse Hospitality with a “hotel”, we offer our time (We both work in our PHD thesis in this moment), our attention and our place. What we ask back is only respect and people who wants to share their life experiences

We are a postmodern couple, like Umberto Eco would say between the “haute et base culture”. We like Classical music, but we can hang out to dance Salsa. We like philosophy and literature, sometimes our conversations are about those topics. We think is always good to think about the meaning of the life and other things that we do or we stop to do. We like to be surrounded by clever people, with those We can learn and share because life is all about it. But We, at least me Agustin, do not take things too serious, that is the other side our my personality. Our bad jokes have a good seriousness relief hahaha.

As we wrote it before, We don't hang out so often because We study and work at the same time, but We are open to take some drinks during the weekends or just a coffee (I rather chocolate and Barbara a mate, but a coffee is more diplomatic). But We can take you to the mountains and the sea, to nature, things and places that are more aligned with our spirit.

I, Agustin, make every time bad jokes, well they are good for me but sometimes no one gets them. Barbara is my "jokes-translator", ask her if you did not get anything. This is the reason why you need to have a good sense of humor to hang out with us, and be open minded to understand my double humor sense (sarcastic most of the time). Also a good pair of shoes, a camera, and be able to known the different faces of Nice.

PHILOSOPHY

"Where I lay my head is home"

"People help the people"

Warum ich bei Couchsurfing bin

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

When I was living in the south of Mexico, I gave before a place to two total strangers from France - who became later my friends- , they told me about this network and I started to host and being hosted.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I been traveling in so many places and some of the people who hosted me became very good friends, others even became my family ( MY GREATEST CS EXPERIENCE SO FAR). So, this network offers us the possibility to meet very interesting people. Every surfer We have met, they have become our mirrors, in other words, We met people from who We learnt something deep from ourselves (our lights and our shadows, as Carl Jung would say). That is why, for us, to be part of this community is very important to open your heart(h) to the others, because at the end WE ARE ALL HUMANS, that means that we have something in common beyond sex, skin and cultural boundaries :) With the pass of time, We learnt to host people who are looking to share life stories and a smile. For first Couchsurfers, please send a proper request (not copy paste), friends feedbacks are ok (or your mother’s) but We would like to know more about our surfers before accepting their requests ( previous bad experiences had taught us that is better refuse someone by message that once they are in our place). Finally, let’s be honest, Couch Surfing is cheap and you meet locals that can give better tips than the guys from a hostel or those from Airbnb.

Interessen

We are interested in learning about Asian and European cultures, practice our languages (it is difficult, here in France, to find someone who speaks Dutch) and vegan people to learn from their ethic perspective. Also, if you ask us We would love to meet people working in the same domain that We are (contemporary French literature, postmodern philosophy, bio-ethics, social integration of refugees, and Health care or Medicine) to exchange some thoughts. Also, people submerged in spiritual researches.

Musik, Filme und Bücher

I must be honest, I, Agustin, am a little bit geek, besides the philosophy and literature, I love the video games, since my childhood. In this moment I do not play, only when I go to my friend’s home. I watch only the most important football matches, and other sports. Barbara prefers listen Classical music, dance Salsa, talk about social-political issues and take a walk on the beach.
And the music, well I will write some artists We listen and you can get an idea:
Theatre of tragedy, Birdy, The Gathering, Interpol, Laura Marling, Solomun, Ten walls, Dead can dance, Beirut, Boy, Keren Ann, Yael Nassim, Tango with lions, Messhugga, Decide, Iron and Wine, Metronomy, First aid kit, Portishead Andrea Motis, Bach, Bethoven, Maller, Debussy, Buena vista social club, Phoenix and so on...
We like a lot of writers Henry Miller, Mister K(afka), Gogol, Camus, Rulfo, Borges, Vian, Dovstoyevski, Rousseau, Maupassant, Poe, Sade, Baudelaire, Rimbaud, Bolaño, Unamuno, and many more...
Also philosophers such as Deleuze, Derrida, Merleau-Ponty, Zizek, Ricœur, Kristeva, Butler, Nussbaum, Hutcheon, De Fontenay, Adorno, Chomsky, Heidegger and Nietzsche!!! And Im starting to get Hegel : )

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

Lost my flight in Eindhoven and came back by hitchhiking to Nice in only 2 days.
Take the 2016 New Year’s Eve dinner with the "Clochards" from Paris (I was dressed as bad as them, some kind of camouflage).
Get lost in Turkey and found my path (thanks to a French-Turkish dictionary) to finish in one Ramadan dinner with local people in the north of Bayramic. One of the most beautiful experiences of my life.
Slept one night near the Danubio in Budapest .

4 animal encounters....
In Vancouver in the middle of the woods I found a wolf, he ran away. In the south of France, also in the woods, I found a deer (also he ran away). In the jungle of Chiapas (México), I saw a whole family of monkeys playing in the threes. And the last one and most beautiful experience: I met, in the beach of the Caribbean Sea, a turtle leaving her eggs. That's something I call "Die Einheit der Natur".

Lehren, lernen, teilen

We could teach you Spanish, slangs from Mexico and Argentina, philosophy, Medecine, French, how to make salsa (both; how to dance and make the sauce) and show you the different sides of Nice ( not tourist places) and make your trip something to remember in your whole life, because for me it's the main goal of using Couchsurfing: to get, in each trip we make, an "unforgettable experience" .

Was ich mit Gastgebern teilen kann

Our smiles, our ideas, our time and some bad jokes haha. And the couch of course (sorry but we do not have any kitchen table to sleep over, local joke).
