CURRENT MISSION
Hear a story from everyone around the world
ABOUT ME
My parents are Icelandic, and they moved to the United States in 1993 to get a better education. I grew up in Fort Worth, Texas. All of my family have traveled extensively, and all have been exchange students. I took extra classes in 2009 so that I would be able to graduate early and study abroad. I chose Portugal, and ended up living in Lisbon for a year. That was really my first experience meeting people from around the world, and I fell in love.
Nowadays, I make a living by cooking professionally in kitchens (typically fine dining, but I'll do whatever). I've done internships in Michelin-starred restaurants in Lisbon, top restaurants in Reykjavik and Dallas, worked in a B&B, and done catering for a large hotel in Dallas. Even then, I'm still learning, and in no way will I ever deny the ability to learn something new. I'm currently studying for a degree in nutrition. Kitchens aren't the place I want to be for the rest of my life.
I climb mountains as well, typically going to Colorado every summer to climb 4-5 mountains over 14,000 ft. (dubbed 14ers). I've climbed 12 so far, and I want to climb other mountains in Africa and South America. I've studied survival extensively, and I have a deep affinity for the outdoors.
At home, I produce music, normally a subgenre of EDM, but I do some other silly stuff as well. It's nothing I take seriously, just a hobby as I can't ever let go of music.
In high school, I played percussion. I was in the drumline, and played in orchestras as well. In Lisbon, I played timpani for a youth orchestra (and it paid quite well!)
PHILOSOPHY
I live without believing that I need a higher being to give me a set of morals to live by. I try to be nice because people enjoy being treated well. I don't yell, cheat, or steal, because I feel that they will, in some shape or form, affect someone negatively. I have some other philosophies, but here really isn't the place.
Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I love meeting people, no matter how or where I meet them. Through CS, I'll be able to encounter people that I normally never would through normal circumstances. In exchange for room, I'll gladly cook something that you would normally never have the chance to eat. I have quite a bit of experience working with modern American cuisine, and traditional southern/southwestern fare.
It feels only natural to give something special in exchange for the experience, and I think that's a great way to do it.

Música, películas y libros
I like Vonnegut, Jr., Cormac McCarthy, Jack Kerouac. I think reading philosophy as well.
Music, anything classical that isn't Baroque. Most EDM, and indie stuff.
Algo increíble que he hecho
I traveled Terceira, Azores in 2011 without knowing anyone on the island and ending up leaving with many many friends. The tiny island had so many nice people, who were willing to change their plans because they saw someone else was a tourist, coming there for the first time. I really felt welcome, in the most genuine sense possible. It was amazing hospitality.
Enseña, aprende, comparte
I can teach you everything I know in terms of culinary arts!
I can teach you some basics of hiking, survival, and mountainclimbing.
I can show you my music, and tell you how I did it.
I'm still young though, so I feel like most of what I do is learning.
