ABOUT ME
I'm passionate about languages and social justice. I love to travel, meet new people and have deep discussions, in addition to practicing my languages, volunteering, playing tennis, rock climbing, going to museums, and dancing. I have a website about volunteering independently around the world and about global issues called www.indievolunteer.wordpress.com

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I ended up living for the rest of the summer with the girl ahead of me on line for the ballet. I was in an exchange program in Quito, Ecuador, but the organization had done a poor job of matching the other students and me with families. I just went out as much as possible by myself, trying to soak up the life in Quito and practice my Spanish everyday, so I ended up being the only one to find a family on my own. The experience changed my life. Lisette and her family lived in a low-income neighborhood in a house they called the 'dollhouse' because it was so small, yet their affection and generosity amazed me every single day. I had only just turned 17 and was living with strangers who somehow had taken me in when I needed it most, and enabled me to open my heart to new people for the rest of my life.
