About Me

Hello people, simply you can call me Wan, and you don't add 'Hi' in front of my name when we are meeting up, as 'hai-wan' means animal in our language. Oh look, you've learned something about my language ;D

I'm an easy going person, been working actively with an NGO in Kedah, Malaysia for the past three years and I'm also involved with couple of Social Entrepreneurships in and around Kuala Lumpur. I'm a creative person and I work a lot with computer.

I used to be a quiet person, but as I came out from my shell couple of years ago, I started to reach communities and challenged myself to make more connections with people and also the nature. Now, that doesn't mean I'm a loud person either :D

I'm so keen in getting to know cultures and people, and I always try to sharpen my soft skill when in conversation. I'm happy when we get to conclusions when talking, so I guess the other person who I'm talking with will also feel good about it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've been advised by a friend to try on it. I never live the life to experience how does it feel to stay at random people's place and try to get to know them. Absolutely the idea is out of my comfort zone, but it is also an interesting venture for me to try.

I understand that connection with people are important. They call it networking when I was dealing with the corporates once upon a time. Without any networking between parties, they will never get to learn from each other.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like fiction books, but recently, self improvements are catching my eyes. I hear to any kind of music, but normally for myself, I like something relaxing, raggae could be counted as one.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm traveling around Europe at the moment until the end of January, and it's not just to drop a visit to get to see the places. I prefer to voluntarily to help around even if it's house chores. So far on this trip since November 2019, I've moved nearly 20 tonnes of soils from people's houses because they're building, helped a family to move to a new place for 3 days, teaching people how to draw, cutting and axing fire wood, helping youth refugees with their English homework, but also in return, I got a lot of help from people that I managed to find myself to get around many cities in Europe.

Teach, Learn, Share

I enjoy my time to teach people about the basics of drawing. I guess you'll enjoyed it too.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I've been involved with a couple of Social Entrepreneurships, which I will talk a lot in this alternative kind of semi-professional career, it's insightful and it also needs more awareness coming from people who wants to know about the how this entreprenuer system can help communities.

I will also feel really happy if my hosts would like to taste Malaysian cooking. I don't bring any spices with me but I also know some cooking that's possible for me to prepare in Europe. Just show me the way to your nearest Asian shop and I'll do the shopping.
