About Me

We are a laid-back, inquisitive married couple. Anthony is the husband, Austyn is the wife. A couple of years ago, we decided to quit our 60-hour work week jobs, and travel around the world for an extended period of time. We did a 4 month road trip around the US. We visited a ton of beautiful National Parks and awesome cities. Then we went abroad, which we talk more about later. We are back from our trip and by no means are done traveling; currently we're looking for a place to call home in the U.S., build community and rebuild our travel coffers:)

We love hiking in nature, learning new things, eating and cooking yummy vegan food, laughing at ourselves, and great conversation.

Anthony is a big singer, and you'll probably hear him singing as he moves through the house. He also has a really boisterous laugh, and likes to talk about current events.

I, Austyn, am a bit quieter”. I enjoy intimate conversations over good food, and learning new things. When I've had a particularly long day, I can get a bit reflective. I'm simply recharging.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

We're hoping to use couch surfing as a platform to meet some terrific folks who can share a bit about their life with us.

For us, one of the awesome things about Couchsurfing is meeting locals. When we travel to new places, we're surrounded by customs, food, languages, and subtle dynamics that are often unfamiliar to us. We love when a host can explore with us, and share their favorite places/activities.

We also really enjoy simply connecting with folks- whether we share interests with them or not. At the end of the day, we’re really jut looking to make some new friends!

We are currently exploring the U.S. to find a place to live, but will definitely start hosting when we can to give back to the C.S. community.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Jazz, Classical, Classic Rock, Folk

Austyn's thoughts on books: Ah! I hate this question because there are so many magical books out there. I really love to read though. If I'm envisioning an ideal day, a good percentage of the day would be spent snuggled up somewhere cozy (couch, bed, cafe, park) to read.

Anthony TV/Film: Historical Dramas (Lincoln, LBJ), Docu-series (Recently: The Staircase, The Keepers), Comedies (Seinfeld, Fraiser)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

We saved up, quit our jobs and traveled the U.S. and Europe for a year. After a tour of the U.S. with a small camper in tow, we sold the camper and flew across the Atlantic. We visited Israel for a few weeks, then Portugal (Lisbon & Southwest coast), then Spain (Granada, Madrid, Galicia). We paused the whirlwind while in Spain to do a workstay at an amazing retreat center located near the Sierra Nevada for a month. We then spent our last month seeing Berin, Prague, Ireland (2 week road trip) and briefly London before returning to the U.S. We met some great folks along the way and learned about different cultures and politics. We also learned more about the environment, the current threats to its sustainability and what we can do to curb our impact.

Teach, Learn, Share

We'd love to learn how to cook some regional dishes. We'd also like to learn a bit of our host's language.

We could also share a bit about our meditation practice and journey of mindfulness.

We've recently begun eating vegan/vegetarian and have plenty of delicious dishes which we can prepare.

What I Can Share with Hosts

We can share good, homemade cooking; knowledge of US National Parks; knowledge of US politics &; history.

This isn’t quite “sharing” but I think it fits best in this category. As guests, we try to be very considerate. We happily share any food we bring to your home, we always clean up after ourselves, and we try to respect your boundaries. So, if you want alone time to watch TV, we’re 100% happy to occupy ourselves; if you’re vegan, we won’t cook any animal products in your home... you get the picture.
