About Me

I moved to Birmingham from the Gulf Coast in 2013 to study at University of Alabama at Birmingham. Having six years in this city has been an amazing experience since it has given me time to see it grow so much in such a short duration. I really enjoy sharing what I know about the place with any guests who decide to make a stop here during their travels. I appreciate people who can dive directly into deep conversations, give me a challenge over a board game, or know how to cook up a good vegetarian dish.

I will try my best to host you, but I am often out of town on weekends and work from 9 to 5 on weekdays. I do love to host, but at the same time, please understand that it is not the easiest thing for me. Therefore, I do request guests to make some time, however brief, in their schedules at some point at night so that we can get to know each other.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My favorite part of visiting a new city is walking around the downtown area and supporting the local restaurants. I joined CS to meet that city's locals since no one is more passionate and knowledgeable about a place than someone who has lived there for years.

I also hope that travelers, especially international ones, will find me when searching for a host. Learning about a culture through someone's first hand accounts is a privilege I always look forward to.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music
My tastes in music change gradually over time. As of right now, I really enjoy lo-fi, hip-hop, rap, and jazz.

Movies
My favorite movies alphabetically are: Her (2013), Into the Spider-Verse (2018), Oldboy (2003), The Ivory Game (2016), and Three Identical Strangers (2018).

Books
My all time favorite book is Ishmael by Daniel Quinn.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have been volunteering with KultureCity for nearly three years now. It is a nonprofit organization that strives to create acceptance and inclusion for individuals with sensory needs. Feel free to ask me about KultureCity or visit our site at KultureCity.org to learn more.

Very few things in life are as rewarding to both you and those around you as volunteering for a movement you are passionate about. I encourage you to figure out what you deeply care about and dedicate your time to that cause.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach
My favorite thing to teach people is how to play a new board/card game or how to throw a frisbee.

Learn
I am always watching science videos and TED Talks. I pay special attention to the topics I know nothing about since those give me the most to learn from. I apply this same mindset to everything. If you have something to teach, I have something to learn.

Share
People come and go, but our memories with them never do. As simple as it may be, sharing quality time and kind conversations with one another is the most generous thing anyone can offer.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I always bring a small gift and tons of gratitude for the hosts who open their home to me. It is the least I can do for the backbone of the CouchSurfing community. I am also very mindful of your place and will be tidy throughout my stay. I do enjoy hanging out with my hosts so hopefully our schedules allow for that!
