About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Have the craic agus ceoil, live an adventure, meet amazing people... oh oh oh and no longer be a victim of gravity. Not much to ask really!

ABOUT ME

Enough about me, how are you? You're looking lovely, do something to your hair? So any scandal?

PHILOSOPHY

Change is the only constant

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am very much a dabbler at the moment but was introduced to this whole crazy experiment by a CS hosting jedi who taught me a lot about what it means to be truly open, welcoming and just sum up perfectly the definition of what a host should be. With this in mind I hope to venture out an meet randomers along the way and have great conversations, great parties and sometimes even a meeting of kindred spirits....

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I was crashing on couches long before I ever heard about any website. Since joining I have been to many a shindig full of cool surfers. I have yet to pop the CS cherry abroad but hope to do this real soon once i get back on the road...

Update: Couchsurfing managed to give me back the magic of my own national holiday, I just spend St Paddys Day in the midst of a group of mad irelandites and foreigners who were introducing themselves to my whiskey soaked culture. I have never drank, giggled and randomly chatted so much in a two day period in my life! Thats what this is all about...

Interests

Absolutely anything that could be deemed as fun and adventurous..... especially but by no means limited to reading voraciously anything I can get my hands on thats not too fluffy(burn chicklit at the stake), scuba diving, paragliding(oh baby! my current passion and reason for my adventurously sustained and most probably shortened life), abseiling, rock climbing, making tea, dancing to banging electronica, grooving to any hiphop beat not made to be a feckin ringtone, taking more pictures than a japanese tourist, making bad puns, making good food, devouring said food with gusto, taking the piss with friends, laughing my ass off with strangers and movies, tons and tons of movies, everyday till I die.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies... impossible to even begin a list, I think I might have seen most of them, or at least more than most. Im a cinephile and can often name a film having only seen a few seconds of a scene, sometimes even from films I havent seen, freaky huh? But for me its basically anything that twists your mind, fucks with your perception and perspectives, opens your eyes, makes you laugh, cry and think, simultaneously if possible. Things like fight club, children of men, the pianist, eternal sunshine of a spotless mind, shaun of the dead, the usual suspects, vanilla sky, city of god, fear and loathing in las vegas, 28 days later, dead mans shoes, the power of one and all things sci-fi or noir...

Books... I have hundreds so its an ongoing battle to read more than buy. Some standout titles:
-Brave New World-Aldous Huxley(1930's but scarily relevant today more than ever),

-The Beach-Alex Garland (inspired me to travel adventurously, much darker than the movie)

-The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight-Thom Hartmann(a call to arms for our poisoned planet and gives great perspective on the inherent madness of the underlying principles of our "modern civilization")

-End of Faith-Sam Harris(a discussion on the dangers religious dogma and blind unquestioning faith)

-The Holographic Universe-Micheal Talbot (prepare to have your fuckin mind blown, this isnt light reading but it explains some of the most unexplainable and applies the theory of our universe based on implicate order. Out there, just read it)

-The Farseer Trilogy-Robin Hobb(fantasy trilogy containing the most well drawn characters I have ever read)

-Looking For Jake-China Meiville(no man has ever written such dark and haunting prose as this freaky cockney)

Music... is my love. Eclectic doesnt even come close to describing my taste. I can happily listen to heavy bass dubstep, big beat electronica, ukranian folk music, balkan gypsy folk, underground hip hop, indie rock or cambodian bubble-gum pop in the space of a few minutes without batting an eyelid or pausing for breath. I dont like everything, but i love the thrill of discovering a new beat in the soundtrack to my life...

For those who lust after specifics, whats on my mp3 this week is Daft Punk, Balkan Beatbox, Florence And the Machine, Rage against the machine(different machine?), Portishead, Sigor Ros, Digitalism, Boys Noise, Yoav, The Doors, DZ, Stenchman, Soulwax, Zero7, Blackalicious, Dhaka Brakha, Fake Blood, Lamb, Jurrasic 5, Mark Ronson, MIA, Otis Redding, Nina Simone and a ton of audiobooks. As you can imagine i see copyright infringement, not as a crime, but a basic human right! Data piracy ahoy!!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Ive seen shipwrecks on ocean beds and thunder storms from inside the clouds, explored underwater caverns and flown alone across mountain plateaus, now im just looking for the next amazing moment...
