My partner and I are teachers who met in Indianapolis and have since lived in South Korea and Costa Rica. We have mostly hosted cyclists on Warmshowers.org, so you can check out my account (kida5887) there for extra security. When I am not teaching, you may find me composing, recording, and performing music (check out my band Island Hill @islandhill909 and my solo stuff @alberthoffmannmusic); performing in and directing plays; reading and writing; running with my dogs, Denver & Mochi; biking, hiking, camping; and traveling whenever I can.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

I am on Couchsurfing because it offers several key positives to travel: A) meeting new friends. I am not a tourist-y traveler, and like to get my travel plans from the locals. Show me where the good food, adventure, music, and beer is, and you will be my friend for life! I can do the same for you. B) I like to be a host. One of my favorite things to do is to have people over and cook for them. C) It's cheap! We teachers are not in it for the money.

Intereses

I have many interests, many which I have listed in the "about me" section. In particular, I have a passion for music. I have been a self-taught musician since I was 14, and have regularly composed, recorded, and performed original music. There are few things I enjoy more than sitting around a campfire and singing some songs with other talented musicians.

I also have a passion for food. I love to eat. I love to cook. I don't love to clean up after cooking.

My other interests are many and varied: reading, writing, film, theatre, running, cycling, tennis, any sport with a frisbee, hiking, climbing, philosophy, debate, yoga, painting, home beer brewing, and of course, travel.

Música, películas y libros

My music taste is extremely eclectic. On any given day, you might find me listening to anything from an old Skip James record to Sigur Ros, from Iron to Wine to Fela Kuti. My primary pre-requisite: it's got to have soul.

Movies and books are the same. I like the classics, I like postmodern stuff, I like graphic novels. If it makes me think, I'm into it. If it is drivel meant to be passively consumed, forget it.

Algo increíble que he hecho

My first year as a teacher I taught English 11 & 12 full time, directed two plays/musicals, performed music and acted in a third play, and waited tables almost every Saturday. Oh yeah, and I replaced/repaired all of the plumbing in my house, along with countless other repairs and modifications.

I guess I've listed more that one thing, but I look at them as "one amazing year I've done."
