About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I want to see the world before my right eye go blind! At the same time spread the passion to love our planet!

ABOUT ME

Okay! So I am Alan, I grew up in Hong Kong but I've been living in Toronto for over 14 years. Now in my late 20s I am a working as a teacher in Dubai but we all know teachers are all underpaid.

Travelling Inspiration:
I was inspired by a person named Lee Chai in 2007 when I saw so many of his solo trips all around the world. (http://www.leelau.net/chai/default.htm) I think his website is no longer working. Ever since then, I've been planning to do spontaneous travelling from time to time, and my first successful trip was from London to Estonia in 2008 Summer using CouchSurfing!

In early 2009, my ophthalmologist told me that I have a hole in my retina in my right eye, and I have to prepare for the worst. And ever since, I've wanted to see the world before I am unable to (at least for one of my eye)

So, a bit more about my personality.
I am a casual guy, I am often agreeable and polite. Also I am a very environmental guy, I try to waste as little environmental resource as possible. I am also a bit of a neatfreak, and I'd feel bad if i left a bunch of mess when I travel. So don't worry, I'd definitely clean up before I leave!

Personal Ideal
I've always love to travel by myself, it gives me this feeling of solitude. When you are travelling by yourself, it feels like you are travelling with your soul. And the more you travel by yourself, the more powerless you realize you are, and the more you could appreciate other people! (help and companionship)
And of course, travelling alone allow you to meet friends, and during your travel you may end up travelling along with someone.

PHILOSOPHY

hmmmmm! thats a tough one.
I personally believe in Karma, so I have to say that we should all play nice!
Speaking of playing, I also believe that the world is the biggest playground we have, but we have to treat the playground nice!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I feel guilty that I cannot offer a coach right now since I do not have a fixed place I am staying, but give me 2 years! I'll settle down and share my space!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Before Coachsurfing
It all starts in 2008. Back then I wasn't even on CS yet. I traveled around Canada and hid in my friend's residence when I toured around Saint John. Later on I also did the say in Lyon... Then the next think I remember is I am all over the places traveling, sometimes using CS, sometimes now! I have always think that I could be a burden for the host!

Travelling Experience and Coachsurfing
So far I've only spontaneously traveled to UK, France, Spain, Switzerland, Italy, Croatia, Greece, Germany, Czech, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, East Coast of USA and the Atlantic provinces of Canada. Later on due to my job requirement, I have practically travelled all over the world. But I have to say Kazakhstan is probably the most memorable stay in my experience.

Hosting Experience
I have, in multiple occasion, let friends of friends and strangers in need stayed in my basement studio. I also have toured some CSers and strangers around Toronto.
