As for books; I generally like anything written by Proust but my favorite would be 'À la recherche du temps perdu', then Istanbul by Orhan Pamuk, La carte et le territoire by Michel Houellebecq, Samarkand by Amin Maalouf, La servitude volontaire by Étienne de la Boétie (I'm really into french litterature)...
