About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Stay afloat!

ABOUT ME

Hi friends, I'm a very social, adventurous sort. I have a small farm where I host wwoof volunteers in the summer. (WWOOF stands for World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms, check it out on the web) I am basically checked out of the technology scene, and my place on Shelter Island is off the grid. Its a pretty wild place open for the creative impulses.
I absolutely love wwoofing- I discovered it in New Zealand in 2004, and it changed my life. Now (2015) Im back for more!

Im gay, love sharing laughs with gay men who are totally out and comfortable.

I feel most comfortable outdoors and in the wilds of Alaska and other tucked away places. I love meeting heartfelt people.

PHILOSOPHY

Trying to understand how to live in the now while still remembering special moments in the past and keeping dreams for the future alive. "There is always enough", I don't operate from the shortage mentality.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have friends who have CS before and they all have rave reviews. I was looking online for a place to stay in Spain and all the places on the web show these fancy yet sterile looking places where your chances of meeting cool people are seriously low. I want to host people and also travel and couch surf.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've surfed in Spain and met up with a wonderful woman in Hungary who took me to the theatre.

Interests

Im a bit of a linguist, I love playing the guitar and singing, love outdoor living, keeping it real.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm dumb when it comes to this stuff. I dont watch movies, read very little (with a degree in literature, go figure!) and listen to the same old music. Man, sometimes I think I must be pretty boring. I spend too much time in the garden, I guess.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In the summer (2009) I kayaked all the way from my farm to Lituya Bay on the outer coast of Southeast Alaska, with 5 friends. It was an epic journey, some 275 miles. We camped in the wildest places and caught our dinner every night, discovered a natural hot spring, one of the boats got bumped by a humpback whale, saw 16 bears, I could go on. We were blessed and most fortunate with the weather.

Just the year before I rowed/sailed to Gustavus from Juneau in an Umiak, which is like a skin rowboat with a sail on it, an Aleut design boat that used to be used for whaling and such. We took four days to do the trip, and one night saw the most amazing bioluminescence in the water- it was new moon and so the little things just glowed all over in the water, you could even see fish moving because of the light trails that lit up as they swam away. I felt like a kid, played in the water for hours.

Teach, Learn, Share

Well, if I could share one thing with you it would be to check out the wwoof network- organic farmers who invite willing workers to join their projects of making the world more sustainable.
