About Me

Hola all! My name is Albie, I'm from Melbourne and am currently experiencing the wonderful magical place that is Central America! Over the next two months I plan to see as much as I can of Mexico and Guatemala, not in terms of places or things to do, but in terms of the culture. I want to experience what it's like to live in these places, where your favorite place to walk is, what your favorite food is, and where your favorite place to dance is!

I've used couchsurfing before when I was travelling through Europe 3 years ago and woah I got so much out of all the wonderful people I met through here! I absolutely love the dimension of a country you can experience by meeting people who live there and want to share their lives with you. I wish I could have done the same at my home in Australia but sadly housemates have always been opposed to it :(

I'd describe myself as a sociable, outgoing, independent person who really values personal connections. I have strong passions for the natural environment, the arts and having a good dance! I love having great chats about anything from our place in the universe to dynamics of politics in Central America to the best ways to cook potato :D I think the world is a magical place with so many amazing experiences just around the corner, so my default emotional state is to be super excited and happy about even the smallest things. I still also have my moments of wanting to chillout and watch the world flow by me.

My spanish isn't great but I'm really keen to learn more! It currently consists of broken phrases and trying not to say everything with a french accent.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Originally I joined to make new friends overseas and have crazy adventures with them. But since saying with a few awesome couchsurfers (who without a doubt I had some great adventures with) that has now extended to using couchsurfer to really get an insider knowledge of the culture and the place i'm staying. I've learnt so much more staying with couchsurfers and had my trip influenced so much more by these generous people than I ever would in a hostel!

Interests

I love learning new things, be it through reading, exploring the world or conversations with all the amazing people in the world. I also love having any kind of chat with people, as there's always so much to learn about them and the world around you.

A big passion of mine is what I'm currently studying - Environmental Science and Global Development. So I love getting out into nature and seeing what makes this area of the world so unique, be prepared for me to get excited about lots of random plants! I've spent the majority of my life living in a rich, white, neocolonialist country, so I really want to broaden my experiences of how people live in the world and the amazing variety of culture that exists in a place as dynamic as Central America.

I'm also really really passionate about dancing, so I love going out clubbing or to festivals and just dancing the hours away :D
Some other things I love are:
-Wildlife and Forests
-any beach or park
-bike rides
-cheap wine
-did i mention dancing?

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm obsessed with Frank Ocean lol, and bands i'm really into at the moment are The Cure and Talking Heads, ! But I can dance to anything until my legs almost break.

My all time favorite books would have to be 1984 and The Philosophy of Andy Warhol-his insights into the world are truly spectacular

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hitchhiked across Eastern Europe during which I came across a wolf while i was alone, was in a car crash, and slept in too many abandoned buildings. But I'm alive yay!
