Sobre mí

CURRENT MISSION

Recent university graduate with a BS. Working and living in Chicago for the time being. Who knows what the future will hold. Never stop learning and growing. Free time spent planning future trips, and helping others realize theirs.

ABOUT ME

Someone who loves to meet others, very friendly and outgoing. I enjoy talking about politics, world history, and sports. I'll try anything once and am very adventurous. The more exotic/unusual, the better. The funnest places to go are those where you don't speak the language.

Eating my way around the world both domestically and abroad. I'll eat literally anything; the more exotic, the better.

PHILOSOPHY

"We travel not for trafficking alone:
By hotter winds our fiery hearts are fanned:
For lust of knowing what should not be known
We make the Golden Journey to Samarkand".

¿Cómo no te voy a querer? Si fuiste campeón de Europa por Décima vez!

Life's about the journey, less than the destination. Getting lost is half the fun of traveling. I enjoy meeting as many people as possible and learning about their lives and experiences. If you can talk about everything under the sun and enjoy it, we'll get along fine. I love learning from people, whether it be words in a language, how to cook, or even pronunciations.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Have surfed in Oviedo, Jordan, and Washington, D.C.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Spent a night surfing in Oviedo, Spain, in the Principality of Asturias. Wonderful time, was shown around the city and saw life from a local perspective. Did the same in Washington DC for 4 nights and was quite an enjoyable time. Was hosted on 2 separate occasions in Jordan. Looking forward to many more experiences.

Intereses

Traveling, going off the beaten path, being spontaneous, seeing cities through the eyes of locals, going to museums, hanging out with friends, reading, Spanish language(s) and culture, Real Madrid, music, partying, foreign policy, backpacking, exercising, art museums.

My favorite thing about exploring new cities is getting to meet locals and eat authentic national dishes. Traveling is about expanding one's horizons, and that includes learning about languages, phrases, customs, and history. In addition, when dining out, I like to go to places from less common countries. I'll eat anything.

Música, películas y libros

The Three Musketeers, The Great Gatsby, Heart of Darkness, any LP travel guides, Harry Potter series, Ghosts of Spain, The Alchemist, Where the West Ends. Paul Theroux, Asne Seierstad, and Michael Totten are my favorite writers.

Interested in literature regarding the Balkans, Caucasus Regions (North/South), and the Middle East. Currently focusing on geopolitics, nation building, development economics, and foreign policy.

Electronic, Flamenco, Reggaeton, Spanish, Classic Rock, West African, Turbofolk, Blues. My Spotify has everything under the sun. Even opera arias.

Algo increíble que he hecho

Scaling Teide in Tenerife (Canary Islands), the view from St. John's Fortress in Kotor, Montenegro after a difficult hike. Escaping wild goats in the High Atlas, attending El Clásico, nights out with the boys, solo backpacking through Northern Spain. Drinking tea and discussing education and culture with Bedouins and their sheep under the hot sun in little Petra. Sleeping under the stars in the Sahara. Survived an 8 hour BlaBlaCar adventure traversing a third of Poland while riding with non-English speakers, haggling in the Marrakech souks.

Travels in Spain: Madrid, Cuenca, Segovia, Salamanca, Valladolid, Zaragoza, Barcelona, Bilbao, San Sebastían, Pamplona, Málaga, Ronda, Córdoba, Sevilla, Granada, Gibraltar, Badajoz, Mérida, Valencia, Almodóvar del Río, Cádiz, Espejo, Jerez de la Frontera, Zuheros, Huelva, Montoro.

I enjoy solo travel and meeting locals. This has led to trekking and rafting in the Amazon, spending time with mercenaries, dining with a Vietnamese family in Hue, being abducted by teachers in Da Nang, racing motorbikes on unlit streets, swinging unsupported on a mountain at 2909m, meeting hill tribes in Nan, getting tattooed, shooting a blow dart gun, hitchhiking 1/4 of Jordan in a day to get back to the capital, and more. Pushing my comfort zone is of the utmost importance.

Enseña, aprende, comparte

Exercising, Volleyball/Basketball/American Football/Baseball are all sports I can teach others. Knowledge in History, Real Estate, English, especially grammar and structure. Interested in language learning, especially more romance/slavic languages. I enjoy discussing geopolitical issues as well as language development and history of conflict zones. Pick a country and we figure out something to talk about.

Qué puedo ofrecer a los anfitriones

I'm a very open-minded and friendly individual. I love to talk and swap stories. Teach me something and I'll tell you things you don't know. We can stay up for hours talking about a wide variety of topics, go to a restaurant, get a drink at a bar, or even just walk and see the sights. History interests me and I love wandering neighborhoods and learning about the origins and stories behind its inhabitants. I'm up for whatever, whenever, with whomever.

That being said, my place is not a hotel. We can see local and touristy sites, eat exotic dishes, take in spectacular views, ponder street art, and explore the local beverage scene. If you have fun, I have fun. If any of the above strike a chord, send me a message.
