About Me

Living in Reykjahlíð town, by Lake Mývatn.

Born and raised in Madrid. Been pretty much out of there since I was 18.

Generally I won't accept requests too far in advance as I generally will not know what I will be doing at that time.

Currently living in a camper van moving around so I probably won't be able to host until things settle, although I am probably willing to make exceptions if needed.

A few years ago I don't think this would have been necessary, or maybe I never lived in such a touristic area... but I would like to get a few things out of the way, and a frank explanation why I will probably be declining some of your requests, and I am going to be brutally honest because it seems no one reads this anyway:

1. Read people's profiles. I can't emphasize this enough, if I see a request for further than a month or so in advance there is literally no way I will accept it. Or people from Spanish speaking countries sending me messages in English... come on... my profile says I was born in Madrid...

2. And this is linked, I am no tourist guide. You decide when and where you are. I am quite against this fast paced tourism that is so trendy in Iceland, so I am not willing to encourage it. But if you need a place last minute, or are in search of work and living here in the area, I may be able to help.

3. There is a middle ground between putting no work on your requests and sending everyone your life story, I know I have probably done it in the past, but quite honestly I don't have time to read everyone's stories, and even less so if they intend to be here for one or two days. And no, you can't know the locals or the place in one or two days, so let's be honest with ourselves, if you need a place to crash ask for it, no garnish. (And I think doing so is not only better but more practical for me and you, you waste less time). And no, I don't really care how many countries you have been in (neither I think it gives me any valuable measurement of your character) and if you want people to know just have an up to date profile.

4. I have no issue with what kind of lifestyle you lead, but my house is animal product and vice free, and free of any other type of oppression. Total liberation for all.

5. Also, I don't have a land you can park your vans on, seems to be a common request and quite frankly it is not so easy to have land here and also it is not very well received by the community to have people parking and sleeping in town. Frankly I don't care too much about this, but it is safe to say I am in no position to let it happen in the area that I live in.

Now all that aside...

While in Iceland 7 years ago, I ended up sailing to Greenland after working in the schooner Opal. Now, many years later, after COVID hit, I decided to try again in Iceland and it has welcomed me greatly.

Now I am studying my captain license and also teaching skiing and climbing in a local sports club while working in the local kindergarten.

I am very interested in Climate Justice, Local and international management of protection of biodiversity and in labor law, sindicalism and general labor rights.

I am slightly bad at following common conventions and I am very direct and genuine. You can use it or lose it.

The goal in life, at least for me is get to understand the meaning of freedom, and happiness, and a part from the liberation of the mind I seek the liberation of the working class. There is no emancipation without social revolution.

Music, Movies, and Books

I try to limit my consumption of music, books and movies to the least amount of assholes possible, so...

A lot of anarchist music, and general people that are just committed (somehow) musicians....

Almudena Rubio, Zeca Afonso, Corales Durruti, Labordeta, Eva Sierra, Georges Brassens, La Otra, Stevie Wonder, Esperanza Spalding, Prins Póló, Björk, Daði Freyr, Bríet, José Mario Branco, Cesaría Evora, Fabrizio de André, Ana Tijoux, Gallo Rojo, Indigenous Resistance, Chicho Sancjez Ferlosio, BICEP, The Blaze, Earth Wind and Fire, Kool and the Gang, O'Funk'Illo, Béla Fleck and the Flecktones, Soncai System, Estopa, KeteKalles, Ska-P, Rita Payés, Delinquentes...

For movies..

We don't have enough utopian movies but...I guess it will have to do.

Belle Verte, Tierra y Libertad, Fantastic planet, and any other trippy old-school animated movies...
And big weakness here, where all my ideology tends to bend a bit, as I do enjoy Disney movies, Harry Potter, Star Wars, superhero movies in general... Although less and less with time ..

Big LOTR geek too.

Also happy with movies with big social comentary, anything really.

From rom coms to heavy documentaries, if it has a good soundtrack I am happy to talk about it and watch it. That is why I have a proyector at home.

For books...

I am not much of a reader I'll admit, but I do listen to books, and that fits more my vibe I think.

Korpotkin, Emma Goldman, Bakunin, Paulo Freire, Embla Ýr Bárudóttir, Eckhart Tolle... and older scripts

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Incredible/amazing is a big word but:

Started Gestalt therapy in January 2021 and never going back.

Vipassana 2023.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am not sure, you can probably figure that out when we meet.

I love teaching... I guess you could say being an educator would be the greatest achievement in my life. Seeing the seeds of dhamma and revolution sprout in younglings and adults alike while learning from everyone I meet, I guess that would be being a real educator for me.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Essentially first thing I will do is ask what they want from me.

After that, talks about a lot of things but also:

I am a rock climbing instructor, so can always take anyone out for a wee introductory session or just a stroll in the countryside/mountainside.

I can share some random totally useless phrases in Spanish that I personally consider amazing and beautiful but they will be of little use to you in your journey to learn the language. Or some useful ones I guess...

I am stupidly busy, so I will try my best to spend time with you but I usually have studies, meetings or sailing stuff going on... Which means I can still cook for you, recommend you places and all and maybe even go with you, but you have to be independent and flexible with times!

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greenland, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Morocco, Netherlands, Philippines, Portugal, Slovenia, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States
