About Me

Currently, I am working on my PhD at the University of Toronto, using Machine Learning to study the causes of human disorders!

I was born in Saint-Petersburg, Russia. When I was a kid, my family moved to Germany for 3 years. In 2011 I moved to Finland for my undergrad, spent 5 months in Belgium doing research at the University of Antwerp, and another 5 months doing research in Barcelona.

My most preferable way to travel is hitchhiking. I like taking pictures of people who help me out, so I have quite a large collection of friendly faces by now :)

I love music and play a couple of instruments - guitar, piano, and sax.

I am a science nerd, so I'd happily join a discussion in any field you prefer if you like talking and sharing thoughts and ideas. If not - what can be better than GOING TO A RAVE??

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love travelling and meeting new people, as everybody else here, probably :D

Interests

I really love music. And travelling. And machine learning also. I've always wanted to go to India, but I am quite limited in funds... One day, one day :)

I would be happy to play some music with you and visit some local concerts/pubs.

Historical sites are never out of a trend for a traveller.

Music, Movies, and Books

I kinda love all of the music genres. However, there is one band which had a way more noticeable influence on me and it is Pink Floyd. When it comes to partying - deadmau5, Axwell, Avicii, you name it haha

Naming some certain books is also a challenge. One of my all-time favourites is Ernest Hemingway. And of course Fitzgerald. 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy'? - 42. Like your average Russian, I have obviously read Dostoevsky. To name drop a little more: Joseph Campbell, James Joyce, Virginia Woolf, Aldous Huxley - Classics Never Get Old.

Movies go with the mood as well. I watched almost everything from Woody Allen, probably he is my favourite director. Omg, his style and sense of humour. Intelligent and subtle.
Can't tell you for sure how many times I watched Sofia Coppola's 'Lost in Translation'.
Also, I worked for half a year in one local movie studio in Russia and had been given some absolutely amazing lectures on theory and history of filmmaking by one of the employees. So, if you want to discuss oeuvre of Auguste and Louis Lumière, George Melies, William Dickson, Andrei Tarkovsky or Sergei Eisenstein - count me in :D

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hitchhiking is risky. I once had to walk 30 km with travelling bags behind my back from Germany into Netherland during the night. It was a terribly amazing experience :D
