About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To gather a little knowledge on many things, then forget about it.

ABOUT ME

Like a stereotypical Finn, I can take my time before opening up, but along my shy and contemplative side exists a silly, talkative idiot. I hug with my friends, and we talk about our feelings openly. When traveling, I guess I straddle the line between the hammock loving lazybuns, and the OCD'd got-to-see-everything types. I can get really interested in some small thing, but my mind usually moves on to the next thing soon. I have a tendency to not plan too much ahead, or forgetting things (at least when on the road). When I read the news, I get depressed, so I don't do it too much. This doesn't make me too knowledgeable, does it? I always want to be mindful of others, but I lost my portable ashtray, so fuhget it. I also thought I was open minded - but what does that even mean in the context of this website?

At least one thing I have in common with you, is that we are couchsurfers, and that should already tell quite a bit. I'm not a good enough writer to fill this box with a text that makes you feel like we already know each other, so this short summary is what you get. Take from it what you will. Use your imagination to fill the gaping holes. You are probably right. I hear I have a Finnish-Scottish accent, by the way, so it might help re-reading my profile using that one with your internal voice.

PHILOSOPHY

Some quotations that resonate with me are:

"No one should be a cock to a stranger, ever." - Ray Smuckles
"That's life - on one day you can be a pigeon, and a statue on another."
"The most tiresome thing you can do is nothing, because you can't stop and rest."
"True peace is found when you are getting your ass beat and you don't mind."
"Everywhere you go, the sky is the sky, and people are people."

Interests

Music is something I need daily. I collect records on vinyl, and make some sample based beats for my own merriment. I usually buy something when entering a record store, so I sometimes have to make a conscious effort to not go in when I see one. If I don't have anything to listen to, you can find me drumming a rhythm with my hands. I like songs regardless of genre, but am mainly listening to rap, dnb, dubstep, techno, and jazz.

When I'm not listening to, or looking for new music, I read. I like to read "deep" books too, but often I'm just lazy, and look for things that make me laugh out loud (like the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy).

I have also found myself dabbling with some Dota2 as of late. Forming a five man team with strangers on the internet to play a game can be the most infuriating thing, but success feels so rewarding I just tend to take situtations calmly. I'm still a bad player, so it's easy to maintain the attitude. I like playing ck, rhasta, aa, tinker, and slardar.

I also have fluctuating interests in scientific discoveries, especially ecological and physiological. That's not telling much, but it is what it is.

I enjoy sunlight, moonlit skies, long walks in the city or out in the woods, just hanging out or going for drinks with my friends, making new ones, dancing outside when it rains, listening to music or just ambient sounds, reading, cooking, being the worst tourist, and eating bacon for breakfast.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

An afternoon of sunshine in Nuorgam, Lapland, after a week of gray skies left me incapable of anything but laughing at the newly revealed beauty of the surrounding fells. Actually not that beautiful, since a lot of the trees were eaten bare by a type of larvae, but anyway...
