About Me

Sou um jovem estudante, filho do interior da Bahia, colocando os pés pra fora de casa, andando pelo mundo e o fazendo conhecer. Sou apaixonado pelo movimento ascensional da Vida e por semear o que há de bom!

I don't really know what to write here so I'll tell you a bit about my past experiences that influence me and some of my current plans.

Well, my name is Alessandro Carvalho, but you can abbreviate it as you want. I was born and grew up in Ilhéus, Bahia, in northeast Brazil. I lived part of my life in a farm, but I took a strange path and went study Applied Foreign Languages and International Negotiations/Economics, but when the opportunity arose I decided to take a break and go out in the world for a while.

I was always feeling a bit out of context at university as I came from a rural origins, but by the end it was the shortest way to expand my knowledge and experience a limitless world. I am grateful for my opportunity to study a little about everything and especially to learn foreign languages.

I went to French Guiana, where I was a language assistant in Maripasoula, a bushinenge village in the Maroni river. Living there was a turning point for me and I have a lot to share about this isolated and unknown world. Very thankful for this opportunity!

Now, starting on April '15, I want to travel freely in south america for a while taking rides and working with workaway. It's not just travel for me, it is also a journey to meet people, learn about bioconstruction and permaculture, to disseminate and receive knowledge and light. Photography is also a new passion of mine.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Learn and meet people.
I'm always curious and opened to interesting conversations. I want to share memorable moments wherever I go. It's also manner with which I can travel cheaply avoiding usual touristic routes. I hope I will be able to share my life back in Brazil to some surfers too.

"O homem constrói o seu próprio ser. Cada pessoa, em qualquer lugar do mundo, tem o seu próprio universo, com suas particularidades. Há sempre o que aprender e ensinar. "

Interests

Our common past and future, mother nature and any ecological-friendly knowledge. Anything you want to share about your life and the life around you with respect to your point of view. In general, I just like to listen.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like everything that satisfies my heart and soul. Freshly interested in MPB and folkloric brazilian songs. As I want to learn the Tabla I'm very into north India music. Also, Aleké (in any bushinenge language) from Guyane and old french songs. I recently fell (very) in love with Bob Marley.

Alejandro Jodoroswky is my favorite director. I meditate on the movies I watch so I like the ones that are in the same time entertaining and carefully made.

I'm interested in books about Pleine Conscience, photography, history of latin america, etc. I'm currently reading Krishnamurti.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Exploring twice the "Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park", an ancient plateau with an estimated age of 1.8 billion years. Surely one of the most beautiful places on earth. But as no one can describe reality, you must experience it, see it and feel the whole atmosphere of it.

Lived in Maripasoula, a Bushinenge village in French Guiana, 2014/2015.

Teach, Learn, Share

Well, surely depends on what you are expecting, but I will be always honest and try my best. I speak portuguese, english, french, spanish and a bit of nenge [french guiana] and can share it. I think I know well my country and it's always a pleasure to break the bread.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I know I'm young (only 21/22 in 2015), but despite my age I think have a lot of things to share with you.

Countries I’ve Visited

Brazil, France, French Guiana, Guyana, Netherlands, Suriname, Switzerland, Venezuela

Countries I’ve Lived In
