Hi, I am Alex 34 years old, moved to Bucharest, Romania where i live with my Girl which is a pro tennis player. I grew up in Holland from the age of 6, till i decided to take some time off to discover my roots.

We are still far away from the glamour which you get to see on TV regarding professional tennis.

At the entry-level ITF tournaments, you are grinding it out against opponents from all over the world, scraping points to get ranked. Even when you win matches, you are still "losing" money. So you need to stay on a budget all the time and hopefully one day you are ranked high enough to be allowed to compete in the tournaments that actually do make you money.

I gave up my job as a tennis teacher here for a more stable job in IT financially to keep her competing. My hobbies are obviously Tennis/IT-Computers and everything tech/cycling/motorcycles.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

We need to try and participate in as much tournaments as possible, all over the globe. Those who can afford it will stay in hotels and that's fine. We just need a place to sleep safely and the possibility to shower and prepare a meal.
Western European countries are expensive enough in general and a "romanian salary" just does not cover the ground to be able to travel abroad.
