About Me

I'm an optimistic pessimist, life has such beautiful experiences to offer. I have been thrown many curves in this journey and had my life shattered into myriad pieces, but I've re-assembled it into a beautiful mosaic. I love running, biking, reading about anthropology, sociology, and pharmacology, I enjoy creating art and I used to work in children's theatre.

I cook for a living until I can return to school and finish my degree. I love exploring places and ideas. I enjoy spirited debate about anything and everything. I am a runner and love to get outside of my own head on long runs and I'm a life long bicyclist as well. I'm a dreamer and can get lost in my own mind.

I have lots of family in Chihuahua, Mexico and I like to go visit them as often as I can. I had an awesome trek into the Chihuahuan desert to eat peyote once and have seen more Mexican states than U.S. states probably.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm going to San Francisco to visit a friend on February 17th to February 20th and I need to find a place to stay for a couple of days. Even a day would be ok. I'm an easy-going person and a helpful guest to have around. I enjoy cooking (I do it professionally) and I'm a clean and tidy person. I have my own itinerary and will be spending time with my friend, but she also works so I will be on my own there and would like a kind soul to show me around a little bit.

Interests

Like I said, I enjoy running and staying mentally and physically fit (still want to get more in shape), I have been biking for 20+ years and enjoy road biking and mountain biking. I read a lot about psychology, ethnobotany, anthropology and sociological topics, and enjoy watching documentaries. I find real life to be more interesting and stranger than fiction.

I spend a lot of time cooking at a restaurant and trying to advance my culinary skills. I enjoy talking to people from all walks of life and love staying with locals when I get to visit other places.

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy lots of music: Grimes, Aphex Twin, Fugazi, Little Dragon, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Kraftwerk, Miles Davis, Ween, Talking Heads, Yo La Tengo, Velvet Underground, CocoRosie, Sonic Youth, Joy Division, Beach House, and the Smiths to name a few.

Book wise 100 Years of Solitude is my favorite, I enjoyed Touched With Fire-a book about bipolar disorder, Native Son, The Giver, The Bell Jar, Bukowski....etc.

Movie wise I watch a lot of documentaries. I used to watch a lot of movies and can't compile a list right now. I like David Lynch's stuff a lot. More to come later...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I spent almost 6 months living with my family in Mexico in 2014 after my abuelo died. I have a lot of experience with the Spanish language, but never really tried to learn it until I was 29. I was baptized in the desert with a peyote ceremony. I got to know my family on the Mexican side a lot better and they're a lot cooler than my family in the U.S. I taught English on the side and picked some beans. I explored Chihuahua and Nayarit with my cousin. I saw the Pacific Ocean for the first time and will see it again in San Francisco soon.

I lived in Chicago for 4 years and experienced a lot there.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am a good listener and can help you learn Spanish. I am an open book and love meeting new people although I can be a little introverted.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can help cook, clean, and share things about growing up in Texas! I'm an adventurous person and love to have new experiences. I can share what I've learned about myself through my journey through life. I
