About Me

Doctoral candidate in communication studies at Southern Illinois University. I like to travel when I can and also meet travelers. Doing a dissertation on ecovillages and cooperative living. Working toward living more at one with the world and with the self.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

While I love meeting new people through traveling, at the moment I'm mostly traveling for academic conferences rather than for pleasure. I'm hoping to begin returning the favor to the couchsurfing community that has graciously hosted me (whether officially through couchsurfing or unofficially from the goodness of people's hearts) during difficult times by hosting travelers here in Carbondale or wherever I live in the future.

Interests

Travel is easily the number one. I love to go to new places and meet new people.

Performance arts. I like art in general, and the kind where people are putting their bodies and selves into it even moreso.

I have a few pulpy stories I've worked on for years and I want to get them out there at some point.

Feminism and social justice work

Alternate living situations (earthships, tiny houses, communes, and ecovillages)

cooking and making incense

new age, pagany, hippie-dippie stuff.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I like electronica, ethereal, dreamy kind of music. CocoRosie, Orbital, Pretty Lights, Bjork, Gorillaz, Glass Animals, all that jazz.

Movies: Love me some weird movies, and just film generally. Recent favorites include: John Carpenter's The Thing, Josie and the Pussycats, Hausu, and

Books: I listen to audiobooks a lot when I drive. Currently listening to The Talisman by Stephen King, The City and the City by China Mieville, and The Turn of the Screw by Henry James.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I lived out of my car around the country for a few monthsback in 2015. I don't know whether to call it an accomplishment or simply a time in my life that I went through, but I probably learned more in those few months than I had in a number of years.

What I Can Share with Hosts

a good conversation, a hearty veggie stew, some neat local beers from southern Illinois. Probably some other stuff, but it's

Countries I’ve Visited
