About Me

I love my home, but it's not going anywhere, so I have a world to work my way across; cultures to discover, people to encounter, scenery to take my breath away and experiences to have. Everything timed together this year to take a few months away from reality and so I'm currently travelling up (mostly) the east coast of the USA in search of adventure, good music, beautiful views and the perfect pair of cowboy boots!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I believe meeting the locals is how to really get stuck into a place and get behind the scenes as it were. I love my Lonely Planets (believe me on this), but there's always more beyond a guidebook. One of the things I enjoy most about travelling alone is all the extra people you get to meet along the way, some of whom are in your life fleetingly, and others who stay for good.

Interests

I love music, especially live. I am in an a Capella bluegrass choir and a fledgling band. I do a fair amount of hiking and also enjoy squash, rugby and have a bit of a love hate relationship with running (there was a war started between different parts of me when the question 'marathon?' came into my head. My legs won the first battle but the war wages on!). I also love a good pub quiz, gives me an opportunity to dredge through the hidden recesses of my brain and impress myself when I stumble across what I'm after (or frustrates me when I can't!)

Music, Movies, and Books

Very variable, it just has to grab me basically...
I have a habit of having about 5 books on the go simultaneously, but if I get into something, it usually gets my full attention. I enjoy escaping into different worlds and alternative realities (Tolkein, The Hunger Games for example) and love authors who allow me to visualise what I'm reading (that's probably what makes me such a slow reader!)
Music wise, anything from rock, folk and bluegrass to classical and opera. I have a great appreciation for musical talent, but can perhaps be a bit of a harsh critic on vocals.
Films...well some of my favourites are LOTR, Fried Green Tomatoes, Forrest Gump (I love Tom Hanks!), Disney's Robin Hood...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have run two half marathons, which considering I can remember being unable to run a mile without walking, amazed me.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I would say my wonderful cooking skills, buuut...I'd better say my dazzling British wit and charming company instead. Plus, I live in a pretty special place myself and would be happy to reciprocate if possible.
