Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Meeting locals who know what's what in a town is always the best way to get to know and experience a place. It's a privilege to show people around my beloved Melbourne, and a pleasure to be shown around a place that another person loves. The best experiences while travelling don't come from mass-tourism attractions, but from meeting locals and trying to understand their way of life. That's why I'm on Couchsurfing, so that I can seek out these authentic and enriching travel experiences.

Interests

I've recently developed an interest in photography, spurred on by my 13 month long trip through Latin America. Check out some of my photos @alexxpage on Instagram.
I love good red wine, better black coffee, and the best beers a place can offer up.
Other than that, I've always loved sport, playing rugby, water polo and rowing all the way through school and university. After finishing school I took up rowing coaching as a job which, after five seasons, became a passion. Now I'm a frequent jogger and cyclist competing regularly in triathlons and marathons, and have recently developed an interest in climbing which I'm keen to explore. Hiking and camping are great and go well with my love of nature and the outdoors. I've loved skiing since I was young, and have recently got into Scuba Diving, pursuing this through my travels through Central America and the Caribbean.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music is my love. I'll listen to most things, so long as its genuine and not off the pop-culture factory line.
I can be found reading most anything, from dorky how-to self help books, to depressing novels about wars, guides to learn more about history or different religions, or as simple and unoriginal as Harry Potter. Books rock, and I love how much time travel frees up to read!
I wouldn't consider myself a big movie buff, although I passionately love most anything made by Wes Anderson or Quentin Tarantino; Inglorious Bastards has been my favourite film for a long time.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm up for anything. I consider myself an open-minded person, accepting of all things weird and wonderful, and always up to try new things. I love to share stories, but love just as much to listen to other people's experiences and fun anecdotes. I'll want to get to know you if you let me, so be prepared for that.
