I'm a full-time musician from Perth, Australia. I work for a non-for profit folk and world music festival, hosting songwriting workshops for young musicians in regional areas of WA. I perform folk and improvised music in a few projects and do sound design/experimental electronic music production for dance and theatre companies.

I particularly enjoy going to see shows and exhibitions, site-specific and outdoor art, going on long hikes, hosting pot-luck dinners, and (heated) table tennis and chess tournaments. I love a good conversation, followed briskly with a hearty laugh.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Meeting people, sharing stories, and finding myself in strange and unexpected places. The most enlightening travelling experiences are always through locals!

Interests

I enjoy outdoor activities: hiking, city parks, big runs, camping and rock climbing.

I also enjoy film photography, coding (for electronic music programs), field recording, dancing, making collage magazines, cold-brew coffee, (vegetarian) ramen, singing and dabbling in digital rendered art.

Music, Movies, and Books

Nina Simone, Joni Mitchell, John Cage, Bob Dylan. I listen to a lot of folk, experimental, ambient electronic, classical, improvised and jazz music.

I enjoy browsing Wikipedia and online independent journals. Some of my favourite books are Dark Emu, zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance. My partner, Luka Buchanan, is a great poet and I enjoy reading work from the spoken word Perth poetry scene, as well as Leonard Cohen.

I'm quite into surrealist/absurdist films (Charlie Kaufman and David Lynch), anime (Satoshi Kon and Madhouse studio) and stand-up comedians (Stewart Lee). I also enjoy going to the local independent art cinema to watch documentaries.
