Hello. I am Alex Retana, originally from Costa Rica and grew up in Tampa , Fl. I have a degree in International Relations from The University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. I have been fortunate enough to have traveled to over 40 countries in 5 continents. I bicycle toured extensively and have been fortunate to be allowed a warm bed , a meal and a brief window into the life of a total stranger who grants me , trust and solidarity. Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am in couchsurfing to me others in a more intricate setting and to obtain a greater human interaction with locals n to see all the wonderful amenities a city has that only locals know.

Music, Movies, and Books

Cinema Paradiso, Shawshank Redemption and any movie that has todo with overcoming adversity and show the power of the human spirit. As far as books, Hundred Years of Solitude, which I had to read several times to understand it. Into the Wild- great book, showing adventure and none conformist spirit of unconventionality and any book as has to do with adventure, imagination and the reminder that we humans are more than material possessions .

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have bicycle tour for extended periods crossing several countries and continents . I have completed 7 Ironman Triathlons and 14 marathons. I love physical activity.

I speak English and Spanish fluently. I can survive with Italian. I love to teach those who want to practice english.
