Overview
About Me
Hello,
my name is Alex.
I was born and raised in Berlin, Germany but started to travel the world right after finishing highschool. I started to travel Germany first for the different steps of my studies and ended up in Rochester, NY, USA for a while before I finally moved to Zürich, Switzerland a little more than a year ago.
I am currently working in cancer research as a scientist, but away from work, I keep myself busy with all kinds of activities, mostly sportive (Tricking, parkour, Basketball) but also kind of artistic by playing the drums. I further try to push my knowledge about languages. I am trying to heat up the rest of my russian, which is left from school and very recently started french lessons.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I am interested to see the world and different cities, but rather from a local perspective than just running through the sights as a tourist. I believe that couchsurfing is the way to meet people, who can actually show you the live in the city you are visiting, rather than just tell and write about it. Getting to know the culture as well as the city is a big plus.
Interests
As briefly mentioned, almost every type of sportive activity is teasing my interest. This includes all kind of activities from hiking, swimming and snowboarding to paragliding, longboarding and tricking.
Further I keep my self busy by playing the drums, but on that side I am currently on the lookout for a band.

Music, Movies, and Books
As a drummer, the easiest and best music to play is good old rock. However I also enjoy hip-hop very much.
When it comes to movies, I am old-fashoned and believe that Forest Gump might still be the best movie of all times. But I am happy if you proof my wrong.
My favortite Authors used to be Frank Schätzing, Mathew Reilly, Dan Brown and Stephen King. However I have to admit that I have not read a single book within the past 3 month.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
The most amazing thing I have done so far was riding a husky sled in the arctic for roughly one day. Just an incredible experience and I`d rather discribe it to you in person than writing it down, because it is just amazing. Nature at its best.
Teach, Learn, Share
I am interested in languages and food. I do not consider myself as cook, at least not a real good one, but one thing to learn from others is the local cuisine.
Also it is funny to try to learn the language, which depending on the country, is sometimes a real tough task.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Depending on the mood, I can share my experiences from places where I have been and vice versa. As I am also intersted in food and languages as mentioned before, I am also willing to teach german or german food specialties (unfortunately I can not teach to brew your own beer).
