About Me

I am currently traveling in Europe for the third time in my life. I have lived in the United States for most of my life, but I also lived in Madrid, Spain during the summer and Glasgow, Scotland during the winter and spring.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

While I am traveling I aim to have one-on-one interactions with people. Rather than having a surface relationship with the places I visit, I think meeting individuals would more appropriately introduce me to their lifestyle and cultures. I believe Couchsurfing allows me to achieve this goal.

Interests

Back at home my focus is mathematics, though I also study and do research in physics. I am also interested in Spanish language and history. I love swimming, biking, walking, and hiking to get around.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like just about every kind of music, from Coldplay and Kanye West to Simon & Garfunkel and Johannes Brahms. I took piano lessons for almost 10 years and have taught myself guitar; I also taught piano lessons for a short amount of time. I watch movies for enjoyment, but I don't analyze them very much. I either love them, like them, or dislike them. My favorite movie is 'Back to the Future.' I read quite a bit, though not nearly as much as I used to. My favorite books are 'A Prayer for Owen Meany' by John Irving and 'The Things They Carried' by Tim O'Brien.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have climbed Croagh Patrick in western Ireland on a hot summer day and lived to tell the tale.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to teach, and that is what I aim to do with my life. As such I am always willing to share what I know with anyone willing to listen. I could talk about mathematics for hours, but I can also have conversations on the "big questions" of life.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I have a lot of stories to share about my living and travel experiences in Spain and Scotland. I also love to talk about how I have developed my outlook and philosophy on life.
