Overview
About Me
I love to laugh and trade stories with people from around the world. I'm quite open-minded and love a good conversation or any opportunity to learn something new.
I grew up in the outdoor rec capital of Canada where I developed a great appreciation for nature and sustainable living. During the first half of my 20s I lived in Vancouver and Germany where I honed my craft at placing 2nd in Catan. Now I live in the San Francisco Bay Area for grad school. I feel extremely fortunate to get to spend my working days dreaming up new technologies for medical imaging.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Kindness between strangers is a beautiful thing. The fact that this website even exists gives me some hope for humanity :)
I've had the pleasure of hosting guests in both Vancouver and Stuttgart. I've also couchsurfed in a handful of cities across Europe. Spending time with locals is always a highlight for me!
Interests
Cooking and music are my biggest hobbies these days. Read on for more about that!
The kitchen is a happy place for me, where I love trying new vegan recipes or fancy cocktails . Ask me about my new-found love for cashew cheese, or my hobby project developing software for a "smart cookbook".
I am the kind of person who gets way too excited to see their 'Spotify, Wrapped' year-in-review. I listen to a lot of music! I especially love the vibe at events like open mics where strangers bravely put themselves out there and share something authentic with the audience. I've performed in a variety of music groups including this a cappella ensemble (https://youtu.be/PD1gA4Wsljw, https://youtu.be/_90PcL0786Q).

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: Indie rock, alternative r&b/hip-hop, or anything with jazz/funk themes.
Books: I enjoy a good Orwell or Steinbeck now and again.
TV/Movies: Subversive comedies like South Park and Bojack Horseman serve me well. My girlfriend and I love watching Big Mouth together.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
- Snow caving in the coastal mountains of British Columbia.
- Survived half of a PhD at Stanford (so far!)
Teach, Learn, Share
I've got loads of travel stories and I'd love to hear yours. We can also exchange recipes if you fancy yourself the cooking type.
I used to be around B1 level with German and French... I must emphasize 'used to be'!
Ask me anything about music, grad school/academia, life in the silicon valley, a cappella, living abroad, ...
What I Can Share with Hosts
I know what it's like to be a host, so above all else I will make every effort to make communication easy and respect your space, both personal and house. I'm a fairly tidy person and am happy to help out with whatever chores/errands help keep your home in order, whether that means helping out with dishes, replenishing supplies, etc. Let me know your expectations and we can work something out :)
While I would love if you can spend time to talk about your life/ experiences on couchsurfing or show me around the city, I would totally understand if you are busy during my visit. Hosting by itself is a huge favour for me.
Last but not least, if there's a guitar around I would be happy to fill your place with music, or better yet let's jam together!
