ABOUT ME

My name is Alex (Donald, really, but I prefer Alex). I was born and raised in Australia and had the values of kindness, compassion, honesty and loyalty instilled in me from a young age, and these things are very important to me. I have a loving family, including an older sister.
My life is an ongoing search for new experiences. There are things I love, such as: food, music, drinking, not drinking, friends, family, board games, video games, sport, exploring, adventures, movies, the natural world, traveling etc...however I am always open to new experiences. Positive or negative, they shape who I am and will continue to do so until I die.

PHILOSOPHY

There is no good reason not to be kind and compassionate. The importance of these qualities cannot be overstated.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am currently (as of July 2012) on a 6 month sojourn around Europe. During this time, I cannot host, but I hope I can be a friendly and engaging surfer. I appeal to you to lend me your couches, and in return I will lend you my experiences, knowledge, skills and friendship.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Invaded couches in Heidelberg, Prague, Reykjavik and Munich thus far and have been met with some top quality hosts.

Interests

I enjoy music, as a major interest. This includes listening and writing, but also sharing as a point of common interest. I like nothing more than showing people new music.
I am passionate about Rugby Union and also Cricket, if you happen to enjoy either of these two sports we will get along fantastically and will surely engage in hours of debate on the subject.
I love reading and writing, especially poetry. Composing and creating any kinds of new artwork is a very important use of my time.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Submarine, Lord of the Rings, V for Vendetta, 12 Angry Men, Anything Monty Python, Children of Men, Fight Club and anything by Hayao Miyazaki.

Music: Too many to list fully, but- Radiohead, Sigur Ros, The Lucksmiths, Bon Iver, Arcade Fire, Interpol, Cold War Kids, Muse, The Strokes, The Films, Bright Eyes and Cage The Elephant to name a few.

Books: Ultimate favourites- The Road (Cormac McCarthy), A Clockwork Orange (Anthony Burgess), 1984 (Orwell), The Millennium Trilogy and Catch 22. Also love reading a good play (The Pillowman) .

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: I am happy to help with English language skills and also the language of music! I can help with reading music or even beginning to play, on guitar or piano. I also know the basics on learning to sing well, so I will definitely sing with you if you like!

Learn: I would especially love to learn how to cook well, particularly foods native to the country which I am visiting. On top of this, I am always open to learning new skills and languages you may be able to offer.
