About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Meet awesome new people, and see the world before I graduate from University.

ABOUT ME

Hi,

I'm Alex. Here's an obscure Paul Simon reference which (might) be relevant, and (might) be funny.

If you'll be my bodyguard
I can be your long lost pal
I can call you Betty
And Betty when you call me
You can call me Al

Ahem, anyway...

I think my friends would say I am a mixture of:

Talkative, driven, dedicated, stays up too late, outgoing, sometimes late, 100% or 0% focused, hungry, excited, hard-working, risk-taking, optimist, dry-humoured, happy.

PHILOSOPHY

I study philosophy at university, so my mind is boggled with other people's "philosophy", unfortunately!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Until recently my experiences of CouchSurfing were very limited, but then when I was in Canada a friend of mine lead the way and began to try it out.

Needless to say it was awesome, and I realised I'd inadvertently CouchSurfed at a "friend-of-a-friend's" house in Bulgaria a few years back. It was even more awesome then, so I want to do it again!

Interests

I love people who have a passion; whatever it's for, passionate people inspire me, and I try to spend my time achieving as much with my life as I can.

I love music, and have played in a bunch of bands. I currently record other people too, so if you like music, let me know and we can see a gig!

Learning Japanese is awesome... My Japanese friends said that it's too hard, so I hope to prove them wrong! I hope to be fluent for next summer (wish me luck!). I am really interested in languages.

I study philosophy at university, so if you are interested in politics, ethics, logic, or language, let's chat!

Of course I love travelling, but it's often the people (and the food) that make the place.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies:
Happiness, Doubt, or anything else with P.S. Hoffman in it!
Stuff by Park Chan Wook.
10 Things I Hate About You, got to love a cheeky chick flick... right?

Music:
Soul (staying in)
Minimal Techno (going out)
Bell and Sebastian, Group Sounds and Folk (all the time)

Books:
Anna Karrenina - definitely worth it!
Tender Is The Night
A Clockwork Orange

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I climbed along the 'soldiers path' of Hua Shan inChina. This was without doubt one of the scariest, craziest and most unbelievably beautiful places I have ever been!

Hitch-hiking from London (England, Northern Europe) to Fez (Morocco, Africa), to raise money for an African charity, was also a huge highlight. We dressed as Batman and Robin for the whole trip.

I WWOOFed in Japan which was absolutely great and I really recommend learning to farm this way!

Teach, Learn, Share

I teach guitar at home, though I'm a little out of practice when it gets more difficult. I record bands.. If you'd like to learn, I'd love to help!

Obviously, I can teach (or at least speak) English. If you have an interest in learning Japanese or Chinese I can show you a really good way of making the squiggly things (characters) turn into words that you'll never forget (still, characters).

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Canada, China, Croatia, Cuba, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Laos, Mongolia, Morocco, Netherlands, Poland, Russian Federation, Serbia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States
