About Me

I'm a PhD student in Italian literature at Columbia University.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have done some great couchsurfing with friends in Hawaii and met tons of great Couchsurfers in Italy, Spain, and France! Overall it's been a fantastic experience.

Interests

I really enjoy seeing new places. Whenever I have time, I try and hop on a train or bus and go somewhere new. Sometimes the best adventures come from improvised trips - something that I learned when living in Italy. I follow the philosophy of "A ship is safe in port, but that's not what ships were built for." That said, when I don't have the opportunity to travel, I enjoy reading (especially history and older literature) and playing the guitar.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: My favorites are Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Browne, Simon & Garfunkel, Billy Joel, etc. But I also enjoy just about any kind of music!

Books: Since I study medieval Italian literature, I love the classics (Dante, Boccaccio, etc.) but for more contemporary authors I like Paul Theroux, Alex Garland, Italo Calvino, and more.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In the summer of 2014, I was traveling around Europe and I decided to walk 800 km from southern France to northwestern Spain on the Camino de Santiago. It took about a month, and I met all sorts of incredible people. I can't think of a better way I would have spent that time.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm a pretty laid-back guy that can have interesting conversations about most topics. I'm always willing to share some of my culture and knowledge with hosts or guests, and I always hope to pick some up when I travel.

Countries I’ve Visited
