About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I'm moving toward grad school for geology. I'm also pursuing more advanced writerly and musical skills.

ABOUT ME

I graduated from college recently, and right now I think a lot about what I should do for the rest of my life. I like seeing other places because it distracts me from this, but also because of how rewarding it is. For me, it would be impossible to overstate how much my environment affects what I do and how I feel. Going to a new place exposes one to a completely new set of stimuli, in terms of sensory experience and the people and ideas that engage the mind. I've lived in four pretty different places over the past year, and it feels like as full and worthwhile a year as I can remember.

PHILOSOPHY

The things that I try to act on are to never let my opinions become calcified, pursue and learn from uncomfortable situations, give freely, and seek out different perspectives.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I want to do a lengthy trip around the U.S., hitching and couchsurfing. Maybe next summer.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I live in a house where we host CouchSurfers quite often. Most of them are kind, interesting people who are fun to spend time with.

Interests

I like singing, dancing, talking, walking, playing music, reading, camping, and photography. I studied geology and I do like rocks, as well as plants. I am involved with some social justice work, collective living, and sustainable agriculture, too.

Music, Movies, and Books

recent books: The Remains of the Day, Cannery Row, Abbey's Road, Homage to Catalonia, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.

music: Bob Dylan & the Band, Robert Johnson, Doc Watson, Ry Cooder, the Rolling Stones. Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grapelli.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Most recent: driving through a rural section of Maine at sundown just as a thunderstorm was beginning.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can tell you about geology, and soon about bike mechanicking. At this point, the thing I'm keenest to learn/improve is my writing.
