ABOUT ME

I'm a keen sailor who particularly enjoys long-distance ocean passages. In fact, i live on a sailboat, which can cause significant transport problems when people come to stay (it's not docked anywhere). I'm also in to motor sports, skiing, in fact pretty much anything that involves some significant risk to my personal being as well as a semblance of ability to control the outcome of events.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Host, surf. Some of the best experiences i've had while travelling have been with couch-surferish people. I hope i can do half as well for anyone that visits Bermuda!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I prefer not to plan too much when travelling, which tends to lead to meeting some wonderful people and having some great experiences. Being bounced on by an extensive collection of rather intimidating cats for a night in Boston, accidentally trading Celli's magic cigarette case for a gallon of fermented mares milk in Mongolia (sorry Celli......) and so on. So, i joined this site a few years ago and it's been incredible; i've hosted and surfed with the most amazing people every one of whom it has been an honour to meet. I plan to continue to expand on this. If you're in Bermuda get in touch and i'll do my utmost to make your stay as genuinely Bermudian as possible!

Una cosa incredibile che ho fatto

Only one....... I guess the thing that stands out most in my mind is when I was sailing a boat to Bermuda from Florida with a friend and we'd been exhausted by violent thunderstorms for three nights in a row. We were both so tired by the third night that we were hallucinating (being overtaken by a 4 by 4 car, or turning around to see a field of sheep behind me.......).

The first night that we didn't have thunderstorms i came up on deck at about 3am to relieve my friend and was immediately struck by what a beautiful night it was. The stars were shining gloriously and the moon was a beautiful crescent. One hand held a jam jar full of rum and the other was busy picking out Pistachio nuts. A pod of dolphins came to play in the bow wake, and the phosphorescence was very bright that night so they were weaving intricate green trails around one another in the most incredible, intricate ballet dance.

That was pretty cool................

Insegna, impara, condividi

Well, i live on a boat, so anyone who comes to stay will have to learn some things about boats. The first lesson is usually how to get on and off one without getting wet, quickly followed by how the toilet works and how not to waste water, electricity etc. as nothing is in abundance. I can teach you how to drive a motor boat and if there's time and the weather cooperates we can go for a sail.

I want to learn anything i don't already know, including things i might not like!

I'm not much of a chef (although i think i'm pretty resourceful with a can of Campbells Chunky Soup!) so i'll make anyone that comes to visit a deal - I'll buy the ingredients if you teach me how to put them together. Something tasty from your home country would be perfect :-)
