About Me

Hey there, my name is Alexa. Im 21 years old and from Hamburg in Germany. I’m on a 2 month long trip from Germany to Portugal, through Spain and back and would love to meet as many people as possible and get some good tips on where to go. I speak German, English and a little French. I’ve lived in Germany most of my life and in England and France for a year each. So let’s share some stories!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

When traveling I like to really get to know the country/city/etc. and in my opinion, to do that getting to know the people who actually live there is a very important part of that. Also it is just way more fun to hang out with or sleep at people's places, rather than some hostel.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

During a social project in South Africa I worked with disabled children. There was this one boy who was cut of from everybody else, because of his hearing and speaking disability. He'd lay on the ground all by himself, whilst all the other children would play games or sing together. I started to approach him, trying to get a reaction and to engage him into the group, which showed to be very difficult. Everyday we went to the center where the kids were. I'd go to him and try to interact. After about 5 days he suddenly lit up and started to clap along to a song the other children were singing. I don't know what exactly happened but after that he'd signal me in a very subtle way that he wanted to participate in this game and sit in that group. It took only one person to actually reach out to this little boy to find a way into the other children's life's and it taught me a great deal about affection, appreciation and just general treatment of each other.
